Matt Farrer, PhD. 1) Mouse modeling of alpha-synucleinopathies and development of therapeutic interventions for Lewy body disease; 2) Genome-wide association and pedigree-based linkage analysis in neurogenetics. Todd E. Golde, MD PhD. 1) In vivo shRNA knockdown of genes involved in regulating amyloid deposition 2) Therapeutic targeting of intramembrane cleaving proteases and 3) amyloid immunotherapy. Christopher Janus PhD. Mechanisms of learning and memory decline and brain neuropathology in mouse models of neurodegeneration. Degree in biological sciences, training in neurobiology required. A postdoctoral research position is available to study the cell biology of bone cells. The laboratory is part of a highly collaborative group that includes laboratories in the departments of Endocrinology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Orthopedic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic. Projects focus on mechanisms of osteoclast differentiation and survival, interactions between osteoclasts and osteoblasts, and commitment of osteoprogenitor
stem cells. A background in cell biology or biochemistry as well as strong writing and communication skills are essential. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in cell culture and signal transduction. Applicants must be eligible for NIH training grant support (i.e. U.S. citizen or green card holder). A postdoctoral research fellow is sought in the oncology research laboratory of an established clinician investigator beginning in summer 2008. Ongoing studies in the laboratory include 1) small molecule anticancer agent mechanism of action studies with emphasis on ROS and redox pathways, transcription factors, and other signaling pathways; 2) identification of novel therapies for multiple myeloma, ovarian cancer, thyroid cancer and other malignancies; and 3) translational studies involving patients enrolled in phase 1 and 2 clinical trials. Requirements for the position include 1) a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree with significant past laboratory research experience, 2) a keen interest in cancer research. A candidate with background in chemistry (analytical/organic/biological/molecular modeling) is
highly desirable, but not absolutely required. The period of the appointment is negotiable, but a two year initial appointment is anticipated.
