Welcome to Hyperlex!
Hyperlexia is a disorder in which precocious reading and decoding ability is coupled with a language delay/difficulties and problems in understanding social situations. Language is acquired in the Gestalt manner and rotely learned information is only later generalized.
The original list hosted at St. John's University for nine years until the out dated server Maelstrom was shut down, was created November 1996 by Donna GJ Randell and Ted Whaley.
This list is for the discussion of hyperlexia and is indeed a Discussion List - your participation is requested. We have adopted a four month membership review policy. Those not participating will be removed.
The usual list rules apply here. Play nice and do not beat a topic to death.
We all have different opinions and can learn from each other. "Newbies" can learn much from those of us who have been on this journey for years - Just as "Oldies" can learn from those just beginning.
