Just making one suggestion about mosquitos. Was told that if one eats bananas ---- this attracts mosquitos to bite. Had a friend having lots of trouble with mosquitos biting her and when she quit eating bananas, they didn't bother her.
Just an idea to consider........ May help someone.
Also a website suggests for one to take B-1 vitamin---- makes the body give off odor that mosquitos don't like.

Teresa asked me to send out a note to the HoustonTXLyme group to let everyone to be careful this summer about mosquito bites. She found a dead dove in her back yard and called Gary Johnson. He told her that his department had already collected many dead birds from her part of Houston, and that West Nile is prevalent in that part of Houston. So, it makes sense that throughout the Houston area, if we are out walking our dogs or doing any other activity outside, especially in the evening around sunset or in the morning around sunrise (I know morning is not the problem with us Lyme folks:) when mosquitoes really like to feed, be aware of the threat of West Nile and try to minimize mosquito bites by using an insect repellant, preferably containing DEET, or whatever method you use to prevent them from biting you.
I think we had a very productive, informative meeting. Good discussion by all.
Especially appreciate that Art and Lynn Holle came and explained their trip to Austin. Lynn showed us the "great package of information" that they distributed to the legislators. She also gave us a list of all the package materials.
THANKS TO ART AND LYNN HOLLE. And seeing Art doing so well.
Also sending Teresa many "GET WELL WISHES" on her recovery from back surgery.

I led the meeting for Teresa on Saturday, since she is still recovering from back surgery. Art and Lynne Holle, from Schulenburg, who were featured a few weeks ago on a 2 minute KHOU news bite about Lyme disease, came to speak about the efforts in Austin under the direction of David Kocurek and Stand Up for Lyme, to inform Texas Legislators of the reality of the Lyme threat in Texas, and of the illegal and immoral efforts (in my humble opinion) by the Texas State Medical Board to censure, censor and threaten physicians who treat chronic Lyme patients with antibiotics for longer than the ridiculously short period of time in the IDSA guidelines. People are suffering terribly and they, the medical board, threaten the licensing, and hence, livelihood of compassionate doctors in Texas trying to help people who suffer from chronic Lyme disease. It appears they even deny its existence.
Art told his story of how he got infected by a tick in the Schulenburg area and how even though it was recognized by his family physician as Lyme disease, the treatment, 2 + 1 weeks of doxycycline was not effective and now he has the chronic, late stage form of the disease…thanks to the Texas State Medical Board and IDSA, he may have to suffer for the rest of his life with this awful disease. Lynne told us about what they did in Austin to inform eight legislators who are involved with the medical board that changes need to be made to allow effective treatment regimes for Lyme disease in Texas.
I was disappointed in the low turn out for this meeting, since Teresa made a concerted effort to inform as many people as possible that Art & Lynne would be here, all the way from Schulenburg, and that what they had to tell us is about efforts in Austin so that we all can get better and more effective treatment in Texas, without having to go out of state. If I remember correctly, and that requires a real effort on my part, there were a total of 7 people who came to hear them talk.

I visited Dr. Rae. I asked for the whole testing. I will return shortly for two days so he can do autonomic testing and other stuff.
I think he knows what he is doing and he warned me that even tho my iv rocephin made me feel great after two treatments, it might eventually stop working like the Ceftin stopped working for me.
I will take his ALF injections. He said I need to stop treatment for now, except for my T3 and estrogen/progesterone/test, and relapse so he can get a good response which will show what is not working and he can make the antigen for it. I don't get it but I was very impressed.
He said he was annoyed that Salvato, Sprague, or Crist had not done immune studies on me. I told him Sprague was not really in that business. He said he is actually training Crist now. Crist did tell me to see Rae.
As a follow up to the note below, I spoke with Gary Johnson on Friday, and he will be out of the office for the rest of July, and will be back in the office in August; but please, while he is gone, still be aware of looking for places and people who know of places close to Houston...I would say with 50 to 60 miles of downtown would still be considered the Houston area... I think Galveston certainly would be... where ticks are abundant, and call or email Gary Johnson with the location and a contact at that location so he can gather ticks from that area for Dr. Norris's research project.

Teresa asked me to send this email while she is still having problems getting around after surgery.
She told me to tell everyone that Dr. Steven Norris, the PhD researcher who came to one of our meetings, has gotten a grant to study ticks in the Houston area. She says that Gary Johnson has taken some ticks to him, but so far they have turned up negative for Borrelia. If anyone knows where ticks can be found in the Houston area so that can be gathered for his research, called Teresa at 281-855-1558.

Angie, call Gary Johnson at the TX Health Dept here in Houston. He can give you the name and address for tick testing here inTX. She needs to put the tick in a baggie with a moist cotton ball to keep it alive.
She will get the test results in 1-2 wks.

With all of the news about contaminated pet food, spinach and peanut butter, do you trust the federal government to ensure the safety of your family's food? Tell Congress to protect Houston's laws!
Hi Jan,
If certain members of Congress have their way, Houston and Texas could lose the ability to adequately ensure the safety of your food and protect animal welfare.
Any day now, the House Agriculture Committee could vote on an amendment to the 2007 Farm Bill that could directly impact Texas's food safety and animal welfare laws.
This new amendment, called Section 123, was quietly added to the Farm Bill a few weeks ago, and it is a huge step backwards on food safety. If passed, it would hamstring state and local food safety efforts by wiping out critical authority on meat, poultry and biotechnology.
Thank you for speaking out to protect our food safety today,
Rebecca Young, Care2 and ThePetitionSite team

Just got this...Nightline tonight has a story about the Thimersol-Autism controversy...

Autism Battle
We're going to take you into the world of autism tonight. Autism is a neurological disorder that affects children's social interactions and overall communication. The study of the disorder has spiked controversy, and we're going to take a look at one aspect of it: What causes autism? A small group of parents of autistic children believe that the mercury in vaccines given to their children contributed to the onset of the autism. Most of the scientific community that studies the disease gives little or no weight to the argument, but a father-son research team has rallied to the side of the parents, convinced that there is a link. The father, once a respected M.D., is now considered a "fringe" scientist. John Donvan talks with the father and son about what they believe causes autism, how they say they can treat it, and how that squares with the overwhelming science that punches holes in their findings.
Tony Blair
Tomorrow Tony Blair will walk out of 10 Downing Street, the British prime minister's residence, for the last time as that country's political leader. When he first arrived 10 years ago, the young, energetic politician was seen as the leader for the future. His easygoing style, passion for soccer and casual dress made him very popular in the early years. He scored high marks on his handling of the economy, peace talks in Northern Ireland and the very sensitive task of addressing a grieving nation when Princess Diana was killed in a car crash in Paris in 1997. Then the Iraq War came, and Blair aligned himself with his ally and friend, George Bush. The British public grew weary of the casualties, losses and the direction the war took. And Tony Blair never recovered. Correspondent Nick Watt brings you our profile of this fascinating political player.
We hope you'll join us tonight.
