Re:protein bars?

Well, you’ve learned a great secret of American society…the only way to make
something taste good is to fill it with trans-fat and high fructose corn
syrup…OK, maybe not really…

On the other hand, I agree that I’ve yet to taste a protein bar, other than
the ones I make myself, that doesn’t taste horrible. I’ve only been able to
find ones that taste “less objectionable”.

That being said, I’d check the web…there are no less than a gazillion sites
that offer recipes for home-made protein bars. Just buy a 5lb tub of protein
powder and use it in your recipes. I’d bet even if you did add some sugar
for taste, you wouldn’t be adding that many calories, and if you used lots
of whole grains for fiber, you’d slow down the sugar uptake.

I think the prices of those bars are absolutely outrageous…as is the pricing
of most bodybuilding supplements…which is the main reason I’ve stopped
taking most of them…other than creatine…you can still get, IMHO, great
prices on straight, microfine creatine. 5grams in my morning coffee is all I
use…and I’d suspect, if you made your own protein bars, you could throw in a
bit of creatine as well.

I also like to do a post workout drink of one scoop protein powder, one
scoop Gatorade powder (www.toolbarn.com <http://www.toolbarn.com/> has
great pricing on the 6 gallon packs – less than $1.50/gal vs $5.00/gal+ @
the supermarket…plus ½ teaspoon creatine…sometimes I just do 8oz of Nestle’s
fat-free chocolate milk w/ ½ teaspoon creatine…cheap AND tastes good!!!

Just my two cents…

John
