How many reps are you doing per set? And, at what pace are you doing the
reps (seconds/positive and seconds/negative)?
I was involved in a program in which one of the routines (for variety)
utilized three sets to failure with 10, 8, and then 5 or 6 reps. Of course,
that changed the total number of exercises for that particular workout. I
never noticed excessive soreness in the athletes or for myself.

Subject: [HIT Digest] Soreness and muscle growth
Okay, I usually do two sets to failure (or failure of proper form at
least, don't want to get hurt).
But the soreness!
I am doing these things where you hang from the chin up bar,
negatives I guess you'd call them. OUCH! And squats, they make me
hurt for days. And I may be getting a job with a lot of walking.
So, does muscle growth have to be so painful? Does one really have to
go to failure, or failure of form at least? I have heard different
opinions on this.
I would think there would be less pain if I didn't go to failure. But
what do you all think then?
