First, I want to thank everyone that took the time to
correspond with me and give me all the great advice
about my plateau.
After several months of losing so many pounds, then
coming to that brick wall and not losing anything for
weeks, it was discouraging because I so badly want to
get to my goal weight!
What I learned is this:
Plateus are to be expected, especially when one has so
much to lose. If you, or someone you know reaches one
of these plateaus, please be encouraging and let them
know that it is only temporary! This is very
important for the person to know. I was really
feeling very discouraged and this was all I was ever
going to be able to lose and I was never going to
reach my goal weight. Richard M. was kind enough to
point out to me that I was only experiencing something
that is quite normal. That my body was testing me to
make sure my nutrition program is permanant. He told
me that after 6-8 weeks of not losing significant
amounts of weight I would again begin to lose weight
as I did before. My body would be convinced that I
have made permenant dietary changes. He advised me to
stick with the program and after working through this
plateau, I will be fine unless you make significant
dietary changes again.
WATER: I had gotten slack in drinking my requisite
water. Most especially important since I live in
Utah, a dry desert state! You need to drink half your
weight (in ounces) in water. For instance, if you
weigh 200 pounds, you need to drink 100 ounces of
water. I bought myself a special pitcher so I could
measure my daily water intake.
PROTEIN: Several people recommended that I make my
shakes "power shakes" and I made this change. I
purchased Herbalife's Protein Powder and I now add TWO
scoops of the protein powder to each of my shakes.
These were the only changes that I made and they got
me to break through my plateau :)
Other recommendations that I am keeping on my back
burner are: Adding herbal aloe, the 21 day cleansing
program, more exercise. Actually, I am upping my
present exercise program (daily yoga, walking &
cardioexerciser) by adding a personal trainer this
weekend! My belly is in need of more toning at this
stage.....
Again, I can't thank all of you enough for your
tremendous response! What a wonderful support group
