MOTIVATION

SUCCESS STARTS WHEN YOU BEGIN

Your opportunity for success is where you are right now.
Everyone who got where they are had to begin where they were.

To attain success or to reach your goal,
don't worry about having all the answers in advance.
You just need to have a clear idea of your goal.

Don't procrastinate when faced with a difficult problem.
Break those problems into parts, and handle one part at a time.

Develop a bias toward action.
You can make something happen, today.
Break your big plan for success into small steps
and take the first step right away.

The highest mountain is climbed one step at a time
Take your first step today.

Small, gradual changes can have amazing results when you look at "The Big Picture"

Work Your Way to a Fit You

In the last issue...
We explored several reasons why we are overweight and why we overeat...
Now it is time to look into another reason why we are overweight....
Couch Potatoes!!
That is just one name for inactive people...
Not all overweight people sit on the couch all day...in front of the TV...
Busy people can be inactive....such as, people with sit down jobs....
There are people who can not be very active because of a physical ailment...
What is your reason?
For me...I just hate exercise and it has to be forced...
My job has a lot of running around and carrying of heavy items...
leaving me too tired afterwards, to want to work out...
Yet I know a man at my job..who just thrives on working out....daily!!

What if we add some form of exercise slowly...to our regular weekly routine...
Start slow.....3 - 4 times a week...
Make it a habit...just like showering, brushing our teeth and hair...

Your first goal is to change your basal metabolism through exercise...
Once you speed up your metabolism you will burn more calories and start loosing more..

One idea that helps motivate and keep us on track is...Fitness Journals....
Here you can keep track of your fitness habits...see where you need change...
reflect back and see how you have progressed...
You can catch yourself if you start to slide...
You can give yourself a gold star for good days...
There are many little things you can do to help you want to work out..
Discover them all...

For many of us....starting to walk around the neighborhood is a great place to start...
Adding more minutes as time passes...
Walk with someone....look at people's gardens and their home improvements...keep up a decent walking pace...
Walk by yourself....Get  a CD or cassette player....play music....play motivational tapes...listen to an audio book...
In time you can even add some ankle weights while you walk...
See Audio Tapes in Diet-Depot's Last Issue...

I want to mention an important piece of the puzzle...
Build up more muscle!!!
Muscle burns calories!!
Add weight training...every other day...
Never work the same muscle 2 days in a row!
When you have increased muscle....your metabolism will naturally increase...
A tighter muscle will also shape your arms, legs and other areas...creating a nice firm appearance.

You can buy weight building books, videos, and equipment...

Add aerobic exercise...
I know it can be very hard and exhausting in the beginning...
It gets easier with time, practice, and as your stamina builds...
Start slow...Add on more minutes as you progress...
Always start with some warm ups and flexing exercises...
And remember to cool down...
Aerobic exercise kicks in your metabolism...making your metabolism run faster during
exercising and continuing to rev even after you have finished, and continue on with your day...

For this, you can buy some very interesting aerobic DVD's and VCR Tapes...

Remember your fluid intake...Increase it during and after working out...
Water is very important....
Read more about it in Diet-Depot's Back Issue...

Do Not Eat Like Crazy... just because you worked out...
Exercise is not a ticket for junk food and consuming extra calories...
Carefully monitoring what you eat and changing your food choices to a healthier selection, with exercise, will help you drop the excess weight and inches.
A Food Journal may go hand in hand with a Fitness Journal...

Be easy on yourself, if you don't get to work out on a day you are scheduled to do so.
Forgive yourself, and get back on track...
Remember we all have good days and bad days...

Create a healthier body and you!!
Be Proud!!

Recipes

Backyard Garden Tomato Soup

Ingredients:
1  tablespoon olive oil
1 1/2 cups diced onions
1  sweet red pepper, diced
2  gloves garlic, minced
4  cups chopped fresh plum tomatoes or
    canned crushed tomatoes
2  cups water
1/4 cup minced fresh basil
2  tablespoons minced fresh mint

Instructions:
In a 4 quart saucepan, combine the oil, onions, peppers and garlic. Cook over medium-high heat for 1 minute; cover, reduce heat to low and cook for 5 minutes.
Add the tomatoes, water basil and mint. Bring to a boil over medium heat and simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes, or until the vegetables are just tender.

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 25 minutes

Quantity:  Serves 4

Chef's Note:  Mint and tomatoes make a beautiful pair. The sweetness of the mint counteracts the natural acidity in the tomatoes and eliminates the need for added sugar.
