According to the Essential Oils Desk Reference (Essential Science
Publishing, page 57), lavender is a universal oil with MANY different
applications. It may help arthritis, asthma, bronchitis, convulsions,
depression, earaches, burns, sunburns, dandruff, allergies, headaches,
insomnia, scarring, skin conditions...."
In ancient times the sweet smelling herb lavender was respected more
for its medicinal properties than its scent, while today the opposite
is true. Thus, modern society is ignoring this oil's greatest attribute-
-its health-giving properties. During Biblical times it was used for
wound healing. In ancient Persia and Greece lavender was used as a germ
killer. In Medieval times it was famous as an antidote for
psychological and neurological disorders. During the 18th century it
was part of a world-renowned formula for beautifying skin. Recent
research proves that Essence of Lavender is an invaluable agent for
damaged skin.
However, lavender is not just for the skin or beautification.
Researcher A. Bissas notes in her article Lavender-the Essential Oil
that currently lavender is successfully used for combating insomnia,
tension, water retention, bad breath, sinus congestion, dandruff, and
sluggish circulation. In particular, she notes that this is a major
relaxing agent for virtually any condition associated with stress or
tension, and that would include practically all illnesses.
Europeans have used it for decades to treat migraines. The French
scientist Rene Gattefosse was the first to discover lavender's ability
to promote tissue regeneration and speed wound healing when he severely
burned his arm in a laboratory accident. Dr. Jean Valnet, the famous
French essential oil expert, used lavender oil for a wide range of open
wounds. Tisserand notes that it exerts a calming action on the heart
and nerves, as well as the digestive tract. He describes its European
use for colic, nausea, vomiting, gas, and heartburn. Lavender has also
been clinically evaluated for its relaxing effects. It may be used to
cleanse cuts, bruises, and skin irritations. Today, lavender is one of
the essential oils to be listed in the British Pharmacopoeia.

Hi Joyers:
I have used Lavender for many different challenges (good night's sleep,
drippy nose and especially burns). While making myself a Hot Fudge
Sundae one day, I accidentally tipped the jar slightly and hot, bubbly
fudge sauce coated all four fingers of my left hand. The pain was
unbelievable. I immediately rinsed off the fudge with cold water. Then
grabbed my bottle of Lavender and put a couple drops on each finger and
massaged it in. Almost, immediate relief. Two hours later I repeated
the Lavender and went to bed. In the morning, all four fingers showed
no signs of a burn. The skin was not pink or tight with movement. I
will always keep a bottle of Lavender in the kitchen for burns and cuts
and, of course, one bottle in the bedroom for a peaceful sleep.
Thank you for letting me share!

Dear Joy:
During a trip on a airplane, I happened to sit next to a woman who was
terrified of flying. While we were waiting to take off, she leaned over
and confided that she sometimes had "panic attacks" while flying.
I didn't say much but I wondered what "panic attacks" meant! During the
take-off, she was white-knuckled but calm and I thought, "That wasn't
too bad!" and went back to reading my magazine.
The captain came on and announced that our trip was just about over and
we would soon begin our descent to our destination. As the plane was
just starting to descend, she became very agitated and started moving
around in her seat. Then she started bouncing up and down on her seat.
Then her arms started flailing and she was breathing very heavily. I
looked at her in horror as all the other passengers did as, by now, she
was really creating a commotion. Reaching into my purse, I uncapped the
lavender, held it under her nose and instructed her to "Breathe
deeply". 20 seconds later she was calm.
I was amazed as everyone else that the lavender had such a quick effect
and I sure did get the questions from everyone around asking what was
in the bottle!
Don't fly without it!

One nostril of mine was infected. Bad thing…smelly yellow/orange/red
stuff coming out ... I mean 'infected', not a simple bad cold. I rubbed
Lavender on my nose, several times a day. At the end of the first day
it was already better. At the end of the 3rd day the infection was
almost all gone... only traces of it. The next day or so, it was a
thing of the past.

Hello Joyous ones,
My grandchildren were driving our garden tractor, and fell into a hole
with one tire and couldn't move it. I went up to help rock and push it
out, and OW!!!! I put my leg right against the hot radiator, and burned
a patch above my knee the size of a half dollar, and another bigger
one, not quite so badly. I didn't have my oils with me. Darn. When I
got home, I looked at the big clear blister, and thought, "Well, it
won't do any good at this point, but to keep the blister from popping,
and oozing, I decided to put a band aid on it. But first, I soaked the
blister with lavender, then put the band aid on.
A couple days later, I removed the band aid, and viola, no blister, and
hardly a trace of the burn. I was amazed that that big blister had
glued itself back and was once again skin.

Hi Caleb and Joilers ~
About 1/2 an hour ago, my 2yo pinched her finger in the door of my
night table (and leaned her weight against it) ... it looked like it
would soon be a blood blister and she was crying like it hurt A LOT
(and this is a kid who doesn't cry all that much). I went and got my
lavender and added a drop to her fingertip. It appeared to feel better
quite quickly and I thought she had forgotten all about it; but after
reading together for about 10 mins, she said "My finger better Mommy".
We'll see tomorrow what colors develop ...
A little dab'll do 'ya, eh?

Hi Caleb,
This is really a great idea and here is one of my testimonies. My dh
owns a sheet metal manufacturing business. He often gets cuts on his
hands and arms that are quite deep. Sheet metal also has an application
on it that is oily and when cut it burns like crazy.
Years ago, he would get cut and it would always infect, take weeks to
heal and leave a very nasty scar, no matter what size the cut. Since we
now have lavender, he puts a drop or two on the cut and it immediately
closes the wound, stops the bleeding and starts the healing. It also
takes away the sting.
We have found that if he does not have any lavender with him, he has
gone a full day until he gets home to put it on the cut. It will still
take the same action.
Love that Lavender!

I use Lavender on my kids burns and hurts all the time. Just a few days
ago, my two year old fell down and scraped his elbow. It was skinned up
and bleeding. I took him inside and put a drop or two on the scrape and
covered it with a Band-Aid. That night we removed the Band-Aid and it
looked like it was almost healed. There was a scrape lower down his arm
that was a comparable "hurt" a few days older that never had the
lavender applied to it. The older scrape had a big ugly scab and looked
like it had a few days still before it would heal. What a difference!
The new scrape with the lavender was already almost gone. There is no
scab on it, just darken skin.

Hello Everyone!
Last summer I had a run-in with our garden tiller. It hit me right on
the side of the knee. My knee immediately began to swell and turn
purple. When I could get up I hobbled to the house to get the lavender
bottle. I sat down and poured the lavender on my knee. As I sat there
the pain began to subside and the swelling started to go down. Within
an hour there was no pain and very little swelling left. My knee was
tender for a few days but I did not limp and it was only slightly
discolored. So when someone gets a bruise around here we grab the
lavender bottle!

Lavender Lovers,
This summer, when the sun was not shining, I thought I'd try to get a
tan on the tops of my feet, so I could wear sandals in public, without
my feet looking so white. Since I always wear tennis shoes while mowing
lawn, my feet never had an opportunity to tan. Of course, I did not put
on any skin lotion before mowing, so after about 2 hours of exposure to
the outdoors, my feet were burning terribly. When the sun is not
shining, a person often gets a worse burn. I immediately rubbed
Lavender over the tops of my feet, and fifteen minutes later, the
terrible burning had subsided at least 90%. I repeated the Lavender
application about an hour later, and there was no more pain.
Wow, was I happy to have Lavender!

Hello,
I have several stories. The first was when I saw my sister-in-law's
most unusual bruise on the palm of her hand. It was a nasty one and I
asked about it. She said she was sure a fall had sprained her hand, and
she had reached for Lavender and spread it all over the top of her
hand. The TOP of her hand had NO bruise, but she failed to use it on
the bottom (palm), and it was seriously bruised. What was really
strange, she showed me between her fingers, and you could literally see
where the lavender had dripped. Where the lavender had not dripped were
black and blue bruises. Lavender does really help prevent bruising in a
way I've NEVER seen or heard of any product doing so.
Several months later, I was visiting friends, and one of their children
slammed a door on their hand. Amidst the screaming, which the parents
were ignoring, I grabbed my Lavender, asked if I could put some on, got
permission, and did so. The tears stopped quickly, and I asked this 6-
year-old how she felt. She told me much better, that it didn't hurt any
more at all. The parents were amazed.
One of the most intriguing things I've heard of on this chat line
several years ago, someone put a single drop of Lavender in a white
cake batter before baking. Reportedly, everyone goes crazy over the
cake. (I haven't tried it, but it sounds really delightful!) Sometime
when my life isn't so crazy, I'm going to make one.

Ah lavender...here's two for you...
1. Last Christmas while making a custard on the stove, the
mixture "spit" at me and a dollop of hot custard landed right below the
lens of my glasses...so it missed my eye...ouch! I could feel the
burn...immediately wiped it off...still burning..."THINK" I told
myself..."What to do?" Lavender! I immediately put a drop on the
spot...instant pain relief and no visible mark by the morning.
2. My friend's son, (age 14) was sooo sick with a high fever and lung
infection...the usual medications weren't helping...he was in severe
pain due to the chest congestion...crying, unable to get out of bed. My
friend had just signed up for YL and had Peppermint and Lavender. (I
know this is only about lavender but the peppermint DID break the
fever)...she rubbed a few drops of Lavender on his back and he was off
to sleep within 10 minutes...
I could go on...but....love that lavender.

Hello all,
The first YL oil I used was the Lavender. We were rushing off for a
vacation and had to check on our neighbors dogs. They were in a
makeshift pen in the garage. As soon as they spotted me with their
food, they got really unruly and knocked a board down which hit my
shinbone gouging out a quarter sized area. Ouch!!! Bled like a stuck
pig too! Skinny leg and the gouged area was right over the bone. I
remembered I had been given a tiny sample of lavender oil at a seminar
and thought they said it was good for cuts/wounds. As soon as I applied
it, the profuse bleeding stopped as well as the pain! I continued to
apply it for several days instead of going to get stitches and the area
healed so nicely and scarless, I can hardly find where it was.
My grandson knocked a heavy stocking holder off a cabinet and it hit
him on his temple. My daughter called saying he had knocked his brains
out! I knew she was probably exaggerating, but I drove beyond the speed
limit anyway to arrive as she was heading out the door to her car with
him for the ER. I said hold on a minute, let me see! Head was wrapped
in a bloody towel. As soon as I got a look at it, I dropped 2 drops of
lavender oil on the area and the bleeding stopped instantly. He was
relieved and seemed to calm faster too from smelling the oil. No trip
to ER needed. We healed that deep wound area without a scar, which my
daughter swore up and down he would have. Not so!
I call lavender the mother oil. If you couldn't have another oil, you'd
be set with lavender. My hubby used it for a burned hand. My friend
uses it for migraines. My downline has used it for respiratory relief.
A 92-yo lady used it to heal a much worse wound on her leg than I had
experienced. She wasn't a candidate for stitches with her paper thin
skin and was sent home from the ER with it still bleeding and hurting.
3 drops of lavender (after 2 wks. of the treatment of triple antibiotic
ointment and a gauze dressing) stopped the bleeding and began the
needed healing after the dressing and ointment was discontinued. It
healed in about another week and almost scarless. She got right back
out into her garden and was glad to tell the doctor that she didn't
need to stay in the house with her leg elevated for the estimated 6
weeks he had told her.
Love the Mother Oil,
Celeste

Hi, Oilers,
Trigger finger is what got me started on essential oils. For
my "trigger finger" my physician prescribed anti-inflammatories and
Cortisone pills which didn't help. Then there were the cortisone shots,
which worked...for awhile. My rheumatologist said that the third time
my middle finger locked (not a good sight to see), I'd have to have
surgery. My finger middle locked for the third time. That's when
someone invited me to a meeting about Young Living Essential Oils. A
few of the oils were passed around and we were invited to use any of
the oils. I rubbed a drop of lavender oil on the base of the finger on
my palm where the physician gave me the cortisone shot. I dared the oil
to work, and when nothing happened, I wondered what good those oils
were. Little did I know that this was the start of my adventure with YL
essential oils. The next day my finger unlocked and I didn't need the
surgery. At first I had to use the lavender oil several times daily,
then at less frequent intervals. Now I rarely need to use the oil.
Sometime during the year when my finger seems to be tightening I use a
drop of lavender on my palm at the base of the finger and everything is
fine again.
Be well,
Jeannie

A friend of mine said every time he feels a cold sore coming on he
pulls out the lavender and applies it anytime he is aware of a little
itching, pain, or whatever. Sometimes several times an hour at first.
It almost always keeps it from erupting for him. I tried it, it works
sometimes for me but I usually get them when I've really pushed myself
too much, and often (dummie) don't have my lavender handy. When I do it
right, it usually works for me too! I favor it and sometimes ravensara
(cooling and creates an unfriendly environment for viruses) during the
first and second stage of the sore, then if it crusts over I favor the
sandalwood or vetiver or myrrh, unctuous, thicker, protective healing
ones.

I love using lavender with my four children, ages 7 years to 10 months.
Just today... my 10 month old had woken up a little "off". She'd been
cranky and whiny, and very clingy. I diluted a couple drops of lavender
and rubbed it all over her belly and legs. She began smiling and
cooing, and now is happily playing. It is wonderful for its calming,
relaxing effects!

I have a puppy who is "hyper" to say the least. I had a terrible time
keeping her in the tub while giving her a bath. Decided to add a couple
drops of lavender to the bath water. Results: she stands there like a
statue and even lets me dump rinse water directly on her head!
So the next time my granddaughter is here I'll put some in her
bathwater too…she too hates having her head washed!!
