Hi Nancy,
My name is Tina Childress and I'm also an audie with bilateral CIs.
I work as an educational audiologist in the public school system. Did we meet through AMPHL before? Your name sounds familiar.
I was actually a hearing audie first and then lost my hearing over nine months due to suspected Autoimmune Inner Ear Disease. I struggled with hearing aids for another nine before getting my first CI in August 2000. I got my second one in December 2005. I love being bilateral!
In terms of my job, I have a lot of support from my co-worker but can independently do things like do HA listening checks (with a modified stethoset - see the Audiology section of the AMPHL website to see what I'm talking about), do speech perception testing and participate in meetings and phone calls. If a child is especially soft-spoken, I may put my FM transmitter in the booth with him/her.
If you have any specific questions, please let us know! This is the perfect venue!
Cheers,
~ Tina ~
If you have any questions, please ask away!
~ Tina ~

Hello People! My name is Nancy McIntosh and I am a deaf bilaterally cochlear implanted audiologist (is that grammatically correct? :-). I've worked in the medical field as well as in the educational arena and have decided I like the medical stuff better. I'm interested in networking with other audiologists who use cochlear implants. Just out of curiosity, how many of you out there are also audiologist with cochlear implants? Anyone care to share their story?Happy Holidays to all!!! Nancy
