Well said Dr. Sjoblad. I agree as well. Fortunately,
HA analyzers are getting better at talking to compression system so our results
are better than the old ANSI pure tone days.

Subject: Re: [HOHAudiologists] EAA runs
and using the test box is really the only way to know exactly what any hearing
aid is doing at any point in time....brand new from the manufacturer, it should
have a test run in the box, which many audiologists fail to do before fitting
it on a patient. You can use test box to assess problems 'in house'
and trouble shoot before sending in for repair...it won't catch everything...but
if you run an comprehensive EAA (takes less than 5 minutes) you can spot most
problems. All repairs that come back from manufacturer should have an EAA
as well, as I know we have occasions at our clinic that the hearing aid comes
back from the manufacturer and it's not really repaired. What a shame to
put that back on a patient...and not have solved their problem, and only made
them more frustrated. We do our profession an injustice when we cut
corners. I'm forced to use the test box, as I have a profound loss and a
listening check is not an option for me - but the evidence suggests using the
test box is what we should all be doing, hard of hearing or not. :)
