Suzanne,
You've captured a lot of what I've been feeling, when
you wrote about being open to "learning with you" and
"finding your solutions."
I'm wondering if that whole notion of being open to
learning with you, and finding your solutions, can be
cast into a light that applies to everyone, not just
hard of hearing students. Sometimes it can be hard
asking for that extra bit from supervisors, especially
at offsite placements when the teaching isn't
necessarily their primary focus. Maybe the idea that
everyone has strengths and weaknesses and different
learning needs.
I've had some random conversations with Sam Atcherson
about things, and I'm really thinking about, some time
in the future when time allows, sitting down and
writing about the clinical education process and what
needs to be considered with hearing impaired students.
Not so much the nuts and bolts of accommodations, but
rather giving people some sense of what it's like and
how to approach it philosophically.
As of now, I'll be at AAA in Charlotte. :)
Thanks everyone for your comments and perspectives!
Julie
