WHAT IS YOUR AGENCY DOING FOR NATIONAL HIV TESTING DAY?
The tenth annual observance of National HIV Testing Day will take place on
Sunday, June 27, 2003. This campaign, sponsored by the National Association
of People with AIDS (NAPWA), is designed to encourage persons at risk for
HIV infection to consider getting tested and taking control of their health.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that between
850,000 and 950,000 Americans are living with HIV, including more than
300,000 living with AIDS.
NAPWA has developed a campaign kit designed to help local organizations
implement community-level National HIV Testing day activities. This kit
contains bilingual posters, fact sheets, media tools, and campaign tips.
These materials are suitable for a wide range of audiences, with special
focus on reaching African Americans, Latinos, men who have sex with men,
youth, and women. All materials can be localized to promote community
events. If you have not yet received this kit in the mail, it may be
downloaded at www.napwa.org/hivtestinfo, or ordered by phone by
calling 1-800-458-5231.
The Bureau of HIV and STD Prevention is compiling a list of Testing
Day-related activities taking place in Texas. This list will be published
in the Texas HIV/STD E-Update and shared with media entities and Texas
HIV/STD InfoLine callers inquiring about local activities.
