2006 HDSF Convention Scholarship Winners - Announcement   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #87 of 447 |
The Huntington's Disease Scholarship Fund [HDSF] is pleased to announce that
we received four applications for a chance to attend the 2006 HDSA National
Convention in Milwaukee in June. After scoring all of the applications this
past weekend, one full scholarship winner was selected and one partial
scholarship winner.

The HDSF is pleased to announce that Rhonda Holscher of Cincinnati, Ohio is
the 2006 HDSF full scholarship winner and Alyson Krivanek of Lakewood,
Colorado is a partial scholarship winner!!! Please join the HDSF in
extending a big CONGRATULATIONS to both this year's winners! We are looking
forward to seeing them in Milwaukee!

A total amount of $1,453.27 in scholarships were awarded!! This leaves the
HDSF with a balance of $100.00 which is necessary to maintain the funds bank
account. Unfortunately this also meant there weren't enough funds to
provide all applications with a partial scholarship.

The scholarship winners and your HDSF Committee want to thank everyone who
were able to support the HDSF this past year. Since the inception of the
HDSF scholarship fund in 2001, 5 full scholarships and 11 partial
scholarship have been awarded. That's pretty darn good for a fund supported
by all our on-line HD families! So give yourself a pat on the back for
helping people attend a HDSA national convention for the past 5 years!

Sadly, support to the fund has dwindled. Very few people were able to
purchase items offered by the HDSF or to make small contributions this past
year. So, this might be the last year that a scholarship can be offered.
It will be a shame since, through the HDSF, recognition of all the on-line
HD families was gained with HDSA and the HDSA communities at-large.
Collectively, we have come a long way from the time people were advised not
to join on-line groups to becoming a group whose members voices have been
heard, contributing to putting together the Huntington's Disease Memorial
Quilts [which travel world wide], involved with convention planning,
convention sessions and presenting the annual HD Hero of the Year award each
year, to name a few of the HDSF accomplishments!

Again, CONGRATULATIONS to our 2006 Scholarship Winners!
