Please share this information at your next HDSA Chapter or HD Support Group meetings especially if you have any new HD family members [since 2002] who might like to honor a loved one with HD. Or, if you're not meeting in the near future, email this message to your members. Hard copies of the below information could also be provided to HD family members through the HDSA Centers of Excellences during their January or February HD clinic days or displayed in your Huntington's Disease Information Rack.
The Huntington's Disease Memorial Quilt website
Has finally been updated to reflect: the history of the HD Memorial Quilts, instructions for the submission of blocks for Phase III Quilt, the Application for loan of a Quilt for your 2006 HD Fund Raising or Awareness events, etc. The entire updated document can be printed out by clicking on ->Phase III Memorial Quilt Update and Instructions for sharing with your Chapters, CoE's and/or Support Groups, etc. Or, specific sections are also made available for printing on each link.
Acknowledge or Remember A Loved One With HD!
Any block that is submitted on or before February 29, 2006 will be included in the Phase III project. This Quilt will be unveiled [and displayed] at the 21st HDSA Annual Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin June 9-11, 2006. Click on Instructions For Submitting Squares to learn how.
Missing Bio's
Many blocks were submitted for the Phase II HD Memorial Quilt Project which were added to the smaller Quilt made during Phase I. The Phase II Quilt was unveiled in St. Louis in June, 2004. However, some of the blocks were submitted directly to Deb Hart and were not included due to the destruction of Deb's house by fire.
Those blocks were saved from the fire and WILL be included in the Phase III HD Memorial Quilt Project. However, the biographies sent to Deb with the blocks were destroyed and they need to be recreated and sent to Marie Nemec. Click on the "List of Missing Bio's For Phase III Quilt" to see if you know anyone whose bio is missing.
There are names from Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Wisconsin and Italy as well as many names that we don't have any records of where they were sent from. Please take a look to see if you can help locate these families so the important biography information can be included in the Biography Book that will accompany the Phase III Quilt.
Loan of Quilt For Your HD Events
Just a reminder that both the Phase I and Phase II Quilts are available, free, to any HD organization or family who has planned an HD fund raiser or awareness event for 2006. The Phase III Quilt will be available after the HDSA national convention June, 2006. The Quilts make a very visible statement to those attending your event. They represent a most poignant and powerful statement of the love, hope and faith of the entire worldwide HD community and serve as a reminder of the terrible impact of Huntington's Disease on all of our lives.
Scheduling the loan of a Quilt for your event is on a first-ask-first-get basis, so check your calendar and see what events you have planned this year, then get your requests for loan in ASAP! Click on Loan Application to learn how.
