As someone on Hunt-Dis wrote: "This article and videos reveal that this [article] was initiated by journalist Amy Harmon's awareness of the work of the National Youth Alliance. People should offer the community's gratitude to NYA and its mentors for bringing in two such extraordinary voices."
AMEN, it IS such a amazing article!!! It's taken almost a year to get the current article by Amy published about Katie. I, for one, want to say THANK YOU KATIE for sharing your heart and your story! Against the apparent reluctance of your family, you have shined a light into the world letting people know what our young people living with or at-risk for Huntington's Disease face today. Through your story they will learn of your courage and that of all our young people in helping them to better understanding the importance of peer-support as well as how knowledge & awareness are helping to make YOURS the LAST generation to live with HD!!!
It was my understanding HDSA invited Amy to the national convention in Milwaukee. She was so impressed with our young NYA people's attitude's that she interviewed many of them promising if she couldn't get something in the article about Katie she was going to try to convince her boss to let her write another article on HD. The NY Times has done several excellent articles on Huntington's Disease! Everyone is encouraged to leave a comment on Amy Harmon's article "Facing Life With a Lethal Gene" to let the Times know we want more articles especially Amy's follow up story on the NYA! You can do so, and thank Amy too, on this New York Times link: http://news.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/03/18/facing-life-with-a-lethal-gene/
Again, Katie, THANK YOU!
Love
