YOUTH FORUM

The Youth Forum will run concurrently with the regular conference schedule. It is open to children ages 8 to 15 who know someone with HD. The goal is to provide education and support. In addition, kids will feel comforted by knowing that they are not the only one who is dealing with HD in their family.

In this program, kids will hear a presentation by Bonnie L. Hennig, MSW, LCSW, Clinical Social Worker at the University of Connecticut Health Center Huntington’s Disease Program entitled, “HD 101: Everything You Need to Know About HD”. They will learn the who, what, when and why about Huntington’s Disease.

The kids will then participate in a recreational activity.

Lunch will be provided together with the adult participants of the annual conference. After that the kids will hear a presentation by Dr. Vanessa Wheeler, Assistant Professor of Neurology at the Center for Human Genetic Diseases, Massachusetts General Hospital. She will present, “What’s New in HD Research”. This session will discuss how scientists are looking for a cure and the latest information available.

The group will then have a chance to talk about what they have learned, ask questions, share stories and ideas.

CHILDREN WHO PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM MUST BE REGISTERED BY OCTOBER 23, 2006. ALL PARENTS/GUARDIANS WILL BE CONTACTED BEFORE THE EVENT TO ENSURE THE FORUM IS APPROPRIATE FOR THEIR CHILD. ABSOLUTELY NO WALK-INS WILL BE ALLOWED
