Not my dishwasher?   Message List

Hi All,

I posted about a week or so ago that my dishwasher is emitting a rubber smell.
Well, the outside temp went down to the 60's and the smell went away. In the
meantime I had cleared everything out of all the cabinets that I thought might
possibly be causing me a problem. I thought that I had found it and remedied
the problem. Today the temp went up to 82 and guess what? The smell is back.

Searching thru the kitchen again, I looked under my kitchen sink for the
umpteenth time. There it was staring right back at me. PVC pipe which ran
from my kitchen sink into the wall behind it. The wall that faces west and gets
direct sun all afternoon. I am just about convinced that this is the problem.
The PVC is in the wall and is heating up when it is hot and sunny. The obvious
thing would be to call a plumber and have it removed. Costly and what if I am
wrong again? I know that the healthy thing to do would be remove it whether it
is the cause of the problem or not, but we are trying to get out of this house
and have spent $8,000 already trying to make it comfortable and healthy for me.

So, I am looking for solutions about how to either shield the outside wall from
the sun so it does not heat up. Or, covering up the pipe that is exposed under
the sink and sealing up the crack around the pipe where it comes in from the
wall in attempt to block the odor. Or both.

Thank you all for you advice, kind words and support now and in the past.

Sandy

Hi: Great that you figured out where the problem is. It could really help if you use aluminium tape to seal the area up. This particular brand is often...
