Thought of the Month:
"What if I don't have time to write down what I eat!?" – Anon.
Background:
In becoming fit, writing down my every move was the most important thing I did.
I wrote down what time I woke up, what time I ate, what I ate and what quantity.
I wrote down each exercise I did, how much weight, how long the workout took and
what I weighed after. I then wrote down what time I went to bed.
As time has rolled on and I feel I am in a funk and not able to get back to the
physique I "once had," I am able to look back at old records and find I am
lazier with my food, liquid, workouts or not getting enough sleep and I can make
adjustments!
Response:
Writing down what you eat is the stairway to success. Most people who are asked
at the end of the day, "What did you have to eat today?" Sit back, look to the
sky and try to recall what they eat.
Plain and simply, "If you don't have enough time to write down this information,
YOU ARE EATING TOO MUCH!"
Most of what you put in your mouth comes in a package that has all nutrition
information listed on it. If you can't spend 30-60 seconds copying this
information into a journal, you are just being LAZY! You may also be
embarrassed to admit to what you just put in your mouth and skip writing it
down. Unfortunately, the more you lie to yourself, the less likely you are
going to be successful in pursuit of your weight loss or gain goals.
The most successful clients I have are writing their information down either for
me or for themselves. They will bring it in and have me critique this when they
hit plateau's and be able to continue the path toward their goals quickly,
because they are being honest with themselves, which makes it more likely that I
can help them!
