Thought of the Month:
These days if you wake up early or go to bed late and flip through TV
channels, you get bombarded with infomercials about how to get those
6-pack abs and toned stomach! This morning I woke up and saw a
headline on the internet that was written by a PH. D. that wrote the
secret is "do bicycle kicks for just 5-minutes per day." WHAT!?
In the past when I would spend 3-4 months during the winter eating
poorly so I could put weight/size on, my stomach would quickly lose
definition no matter how many crunches, bicycle kicks or 30 minute
training sessions focusing on abs I would do!
For someone who does cardio and resistance training on a regular
basis, there really is no secret any deeper than WATCH WHAT YOU EAT!
The food that you put in your mouth reflects on the abs you either
have or don't have. It has nothing to do with how many crunches you
do.
I currently have a client of mine that in the past had told me there
is no way they would ever see abs because they didn't have
the "genetics." I told him that genetics has no part in whether you
see abs, it has to do with your nutrition and food intake. I made a
deal with him (once he lost enough weight) that if he followed a
certain meal plan for 8-weeks he would see abdominal definition.
Even after he didn't follow the project to a "T" he saw that he had a
4-pack and then he was hooked! He has begun to listen to more of
what I have to say; only doing abs 2 days per week, doing cardio 3
days per week and following a 5 day per week resistance training
program. In the past 8-weeks, he now has near an 8-pack and
abdominal vascularity that would win any local competition in a heart-
beat!
I know that everyone looks for an easy answer, but the bottom line is
if you can sacrifice 6-12 weeks and be exact in their nutrition and
food intake, you will be SHOCKED at the differences you will see in
your midsection!
