King County in Washington State is adopting a healthcare plan that
will reward employees for maintaining a healthy lifestyle by charging
them lower out-of-pocket healthcare costs. In 2007, those who do
frequent check-ups and fill out questionaires will pay more than $1000
less per year than those who do not. This new plan is expected to
save $33 million in healthcare cost between 2007 and 2009 alone!
Hopefully insurance companies in general will adopt policies like this
to help save all of us money. This is also something that I am
working on with the insurance company that I go through right now, but
there seems to be a lot of resistance because of the thought of
discrimination.
