I'm not sure what you're talking about. I don't recall saying that
we couldn't stay in one phase with treatment. The goal is exactly
that, to halt the progression of the disease and this can only be
done with treatment.
Ideally, we want to remain in some form of remission where the
disease is fully controlled. If this cannot be achieved, the next
best thing would be to remain in the chronic phase which is not
fatal.
The problem is that CML can sometimes be unpredictable and we could
potentially advance to the accelerated phase despite treatment.
Thankfully however, this is not common. Although uncommon, it is
still possible so that's why we're so lucky to have these second
generation drugs coming through the pipe line. These drugs are
showing great promise for patients who have stopped responding to
Gleevec.
I'm not in the medical field but I have spent the last four years
since my diagnosis, reading medical journals and educating myself on
this disease.
