Hello, Our group is interested in the Ginger Beer Plant .
The GBP is a composite organism consisting of two very specific organisms a yeast (Saccharomyces pyriformis) and a bacterium (Brevibacterium vermiforme) living together in a kind of self-made gel. Stay clear of recipes for a GBP or cultures claiming to be a GBP '100 generations old' that say they contain yeast, or 'not a real plant', these are simply baker's yeast, something you can get from your corner shop for a few pennies. A Ginger Beer Plant cannot be made. Ginger beer can be made from yeast but this does not make yeast a Ginger Beer Plant anymore than it is a 'Bread Plant' or a 'Wine Plant'.
