This site is not meant to replace your Doctor's advice.
We are an information and support group designed for those having experienced, or who are considering Gastric Sleeve surgery or conversion to Gastric Sleeve.
Sleeve gastrectomy is a procedure that induces weight loss by restricting food intake. With this procedure, the surgeon removes approximately 60 percent of the stomach laparoscopically so that the stomach takes the shape of a tube or "sleeve." This is performed laparoscopically, using special instruments that allow the surgeon to operate through small abdominal incisions. This surgery is a restrictive procedure. There is no re-routing of the intestines and NO CHANGE in the ability to absorb calories and nutrients. Patients report a drastic decrease in hunger and an early feeling of “fullness” when they eat. The mechanism for weight loss is a decrease in calorie intake ALL THE WHILE KEEPING THE NUTRITION INTAKE PROPER.
