I am 6 mos. post op from Gastric Bypass.  I have done exceptionally well in the weight loss department but not in the support dept.  I need to know if people go through the same things I am going through, depression, hair loss, etc.

I did have hair loss.  For a few months it just didn’t look good, kinda stringy.  But it came back and with a little curl.   It did bother me and I wondered if it would ever be the same.  I think most people go through that.

As far as depression.  I went the other way and my depression got better.  But now, I am having PMDD so I’m back on meds for it.

Are you talking to your doctor about the depression?  Maybe you can be put on something, at least for a little while.

I’m sorry to hear you are having depression, I know how that is.  I’ve had it for years and it’s been up and down, up and down.

Where did you have it done? There are local support group meetings every mo. that is open to everyone. One month it's at Deaconess on Wed. nights and the next month is at St. Mary's on Mon. nights. They answer a lot of questions and you'll see you aren't different. There is usually someone who has gone through the same thing.
Come join us.

The hair loss was the worst for me. My hair is thin anyways and seeing all that
hair caught in the drain freaked me out really bad. I made double sure I was
getting my protein in each day, and it all worked out. It's just one of those
things you have to get through to reach the end.

Finding a support group like the one Julia goes too would be very beneficial...
I had D'Ann to whine and complain too and the psychologist at St. Mary's
Bariatric (Weight-loss center now?) I knew others that had gone through the
procedure so they helped too. Also, for weird questions you might check out the
forums on www.obesityhelp.com You can just scroll through the forums and you're
sure to find the answer to all your questions without typing a word. Someone
there is going through or has gone through what you are going through.

It's great you're doing so well with the weight loss. They say exercising helps
with the depression and I know when I was exercising regularly I felt on top of
the world. A good brisk walk 3 or more times a week might help. I think I
started exercising when I was about 9 months out... I HATE exercising... I mean
REALLY HATE it. (I honestly believe if I loved exercising I would never had
needed the surgery in the first place) So it was the hardest thing for me to get
started with and keep going. D'Ann and I walked every morning M-F last year for
60 minutes after the kids were in school. But once they were out of school for
summer, it was just too hard to keep it up and then I stopped everything. I had
other issues too and just never really got back into the habit... and I can come
up with some really good excuses, but that's all they are, excuses!

Find a support group and start exercising... if you are still feeling depressed
talk to your doctor about medication. Life is too short to be sad and you've
worked so hard to get healthy you need to stay that way.

Good Luck... if you need people to talk too, this group is always watching and
ready to help!

Judy
