Re: [GastricBypassVanderburghIN] hello, new member here

Thank you D'Ann for responding.
I live in Boonville. My hubby works at Deaconess Gateway (lab) and our insurance is with them. So if it does happen, it will have to happen at Deaconess. Hubby has been talking to his co-worker who had gastric bypass. He is very supportive of me. Deaconess has a *Live Well* program. I think that is the right name. I will have to go through them to get the process started.
I told my daughter in law that I was considering it. She said WHY?
You aren't THAT fat. I tried to explain to her that I felt at 47, if I was going to be able to maintain a body weight that was reasonable for my body frame...I would have already been there.
It isn't about how well my body (or my clothing) hides fat it's about how the extra weight is affecting my body.
I have three herniated disc, my back hurts constantly. I'm too young to be wasting the rest of my life sitting in my recliner with a heat pad to my back.
It isn't about how I look. It's all about how I feel physically.
I know different people want the bypass for different reasons.
Having the energy to drag my own body around enough to enjoy my grand babies is one good reason. I'm not an *old* grandma, I shouldn't have to act like one.
I am afraid of developing heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.
I have seen a neurologist for my back, after MRI. He said the best thing I could do is lose weight. I've gained since then. I feel like I'm committing slow suicide with a fork and spoon. I am hoping it is going to be possible for me to have the bypass surgery.
I am expecting it to be ruff, but the main thing for me is, one done I can't back out, or fall off the dieting wagon as I have done before.
When I was still smoking I used to say I could quit, in fact I was good at quiting. I've done it many times.
That's the way I feel about losing the weight. Sure, I can diet. I can lose weight, I've lost and found myself several times over.

Hi Patricia,  I'm glad you joined, so do you live in Evansville?  or nearby?  St. Marys is where I had mine and there are really nice people there, call them.  I went to a support group meeting today and hope some of them join this group and then we can all talk about things together.
I too am a WW flunky!!  I think I tried them 3 times.  I have friends who have done really well with it but everything I had tried just didn't work out for me.  I it good that there are different alternatives to solving our weight problem.
Ask any questions you might have, I will do my best to anwswer them and hopefully soon, a lot of other people will be here to help as well.
hope to hear from you soon

Hello
My name is Patricia.
I am considering bypass surgery, if I meet the criteria.
My BMI is 39. I've been on about every diet you can think of. Lose weight...then promptly gain it back.
I have disc problems in my low back, and a strong family history of diabetes, although I personally have not developed it ...yet.
I had lost down below 200 pounds, then I stopped smoking.
Now the weight is back, and it brought friends.
My back hurts much worse with the weight on
I weigh more than I did before I started dieting. I was on weight watchers, now I feel like a WW flunky.
I found this group and thought it might be a good place to start talking. My hubby called about it today, and I suppose it's a matter of setting up the appointment and moving forward at this point.
