AVRC clinical trials for those with drug-resistant HIV
1. CCR5 Inhibitor Study:
Design: CCR5 inhibitor SCH 417690 + optimized background regimen vs. optimized background regimen only.
Criteria: HIV RNA > 5000. Currently on ARV > 4 weeks OR taking a treatment interruption > 4 weeks. Viral tropism will be screened at first visit to determine eligibility. No CD4 criteria.
Virologic failure: Patients may roll over to the CCR5 Inhibitor arm if failing after approximately 8 weeks.
Status: Currently enrolling
2. TMC 125 (experimental NNRTI) with TMC 114 (experimental PI) Study:
Design: TMC 114/RTV + TMC 125 + optimized background regimen vs. TMC 114/RTV optimized background regimen only.
Criteria: HIV RNA > 5000. Currently on stable ARV > 8 weeks. No CD4 criteria.
Virologic failure: Patients may roll over to open label TMC 125 if failing after 24 weeks.
Status: Opening for accrual in February
3. Merck Integrase Inhibitor Study:
Design: Integrase Inhibitor 0518 + optimized background regimen vs. optimized background regimen only.
Criteria: HIV RNA > 1000. Currently on stable ARV > 8 weeks. No CD4 criteria.
Virologic failure: Patients may roll over to open label Integrase Inhibitor if failing after 16 weeks.
Status: Opening for accrual in March
4.
Design: Integrase Inhibitor 9137 (20, 50, or 125 QD) + optimized background regimen vs. optimized background regimen only.
Criteria: HIV RNA > 1000. Other criteria TBA.
Virologic failure: Patients receiving 'optimized background regimens' only may roll over to one of the integrase inhibitor arms if failing after 16 weeks.
Status: Opening for accrual in April.
There is a waiting list, but we are currently seeking additional participants.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do... And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
