Thanks to Laura for this Frugal Baby Tip!
Regarding the Crisco for Lice Removal Tip - The dish soap would have
made my kids' skin a fireball, not to mention my hands. Dish soap is
actually very harsh stuff, so I couldn't do that.
Somebody told me to put solid vegetable oil in the hair too, which is
just about the same thing. I tried conditioner on the hair instead,
and it did make the nits easier to remove, but I just couldn't get all
of them. I think the problem was that she was getting re-infested at
school.
Anyway, I couldn't do with it so I just shaved their hair. I think
I'll keep it very short from now on as well. Trying to comb out
something that you can't see and can hardly feel is not funny! Still,
they love their little caps though. Thanks for the advice about the
shortening.
Another alternative is to use almond oil (or some other vegetable oil)
with beeswax in it, and lavender, geranium and rosemary in equal parts
to about 5 per cent. Do the shower cap or plastic bag thing all night,
and then shampoo very, very well indeed the next day. I think the nits
are supposed to stick to the beeswax and the lice get suffocated too.
But if they just go and get re-infested, nothing you do will do any good.
