Diapering: Washable Wipes   Message List

Thanks to Christine for this Frugal Baby Tip!

For the last 6 months or so, I've been making my own washable wipes.

I bought a pack of 24 cheap blue washcloths at Wal-Mart for $4.99. I
found them in the bathroom section, where all the towels and stuff are.

In a glass bowl, I mix about 1/2 cup of baby oil and just a drop of
baby wash with lots of water. I dunk my washcloths in and wring them
until they're still wet but not dripping, and store them in a Chubs
wipes box (the ones that look like huge Lego blocks). About 10 wipes
can fit in the box. Then after they're used, I just throw them in the
diaper pail and wash them with my dipes.

Some may question the use of the baby oil, but I find it makes it MUCH
easier to wipe the poop off the baby's skin. When I use just plain
water, it seems too rough and makes it hard to wipe off. The oil also
makes a sort of moisture barrier on his skin, and he never gets a
rash. Besides the small bit of oil on my wipes, I don't use any powder
or creams on my baby at all. Of course, if your baby has very
sensitive skin, you may not be able to use oil.
