Miscellaneous_: More Earth Day thoughts
Thanks to Catherine for this Frugal Baby Tip!
I've thought of some more things that we do:
I keep a small recycling bin under my office desk, instead of a
garbage can. The garbage is a couple feet away, so I am more likely
to toss any paper I can't re-use into the recycle bin instead of the
garbage.
I have water-savers on all the taps and in the shower. I have water
dams in both the toilet tanks.
I use no chemicals on my gardens or lawn. Nor do I water it, I let
the rain do that. A little bit of brown grass doesn't bother me, and
my grass grows long roots to help it survive a drought.
I use ceiling fans instead of an air conditioner. I wash dishes by
hand instead of using the dishwasher. My house came with these two
appliances, so it is a choice for me.
I only heat the important rooms, as we have electric heat - that
means my office and the living room - where we spend most of our
time. In the bedrooms we just use lots of quilts. I have now found I
sleep better in a cooler room.
We always buy in bulk, so cut down on excess packaging. We only put
out one small garbage bag a week.
My neighbours, who both work, and their 10y & 12y are in school all
day, and they eat out a great deal - put out 10-14 bags of garbage a
week!
