Diaper Sewing_: Working with Fleece
Thanks to AUGUSTCHAS for this Frugal Baby Tip!
QUESTION: I love to sew and am thinking about sewing some fleece
diaper covers for Devin. I have a question for the "sewers" in the
group. Do I need to do anything special to treat the fleece? Also is
their a special type of fleece that I should use?
You don't need to do anything to treat the fleece. I did wash mine on
hot twice and dry on hot twice before cutting and sewing to assure if
there was any shrinkage it wouldn't happen afterward. The heat helps
the fleece to become more water resistent. With choosing fleece,
there is just no way to tell unless you try it out. I tested some
that was wonderful. I went back and purchased the *exact same thing*
in a different color and it's worthless.
It's very frustrating. You will know right away if you have some that
will work. The water will either bead up like on a waxed car or soak
in. Testing it with some water is just the only way to tell. I have
tried about 10 different kinds and 4 of them have been good.
