Diaper Washing: Do Your Wool Covers Need Lanolizing?

Diaper Washing_: Do Your Wool Covers Need Lanolizing?
Thanks to Tracy for this Frugal Baby Tip!

I don't know if this is much help or not....but I have bought about
35 or more used wool Nikkys, BioBottoms and a few mystery brands, but
mostly BioBottoms, and I have found that generally, wool covers are
quite hardy and tend to last.

Having said that, what I have discovered is that if the cover feels
reasonably soft, it is probably still in good enough condition that
it can be relanolized and made nice and water resistant, but if the
material feels very dry and somewhat rough, it is probably beyond
help. I have gotten my hands on a few that no matter how many times I
lanolized them, no matter how much lanolin was used (even making them
sticky) they were just shot. Beyond help.

To see if your covers need any treatment, sprinkle some water on
them. If the water beads up and will not soak into the material, they
need no lanolin treatment. If it initially beads up, but starts to
soak in rather quickly, then the cover is still in good condition,
but could use a treatment, which should return its water resistancy.
If it soaks through on contact, you're probably out of luck, but a
treatment might be worth a try before giving up on the cover. Anyway,
it couldn't hurt!

Hope that this offers some help!
