A point of clarification.  I have emphasised repeatedly that I am not a lawyer. Please do not misrepresent what I have said about my understanding of the legal issues that are raised by the 2005 European Court ruling on 'functional drinks'.  

I am NOT taking or referring Guinness to the European Court, and as far as I am aware, neither is anyone else. I indicated that Guinness made in Dublin uses Dublin city water, which contains 0.7 mg/l of fluoride, is an example of the sort of problematic trade issue that needs to be addressed under the 2005 ruling of the ECJ.

I am NOT suggesting that any food (or drinks) manufacturer is carrying out an unlawful activity by using fluoridated water, but that the ruling implies that such practices need to be referred to specialist legal experts for review. If it turns out that a food or drink manufacturer may be caught up by political evasion of relevant medicinal laws then they, like everyone else exposed to or using fluoridated water, will be the victims of corrupt Government, and not wilful exploiters of the existing system. They must be provided with appropriate protection from the financial consequences of this ruling until any new compliant domestic legislation relating to their products has been approved and imposed.

In the case of any large-scale food or drinks exporter, justice would demand at the very least that an amnesty be granted to them to allow them to dispose of any of their exiting stocks of goods that may be subject to a future embargo. It is essential that they should be protected against unreasonable commercial losses caused by the updating of domestic legislation that would require the withdrawal and destruction of goods that might suddenly become the subject of any future prohibition.

Whilst fluoridation can be halted immediately at the water treatment works, like the fluoride over-dose in Brisbane it will take a lot longer to rid the downstream distribution system of the residual contamination.

Please make sure that everyone is clear about this.

Some ideas.

 

This is short notice but if we can run human rights get togethers in NSW , Vic and QLD on June 11th as part of GetUp we might be able to elevate the campaign against fluoridation with them and consequently the broader community.

 

Even if people can't turn up at short notice you could count them in (devious) - GetUP mentions "water" in the same breath as human rights (see below)

 

We (F.I.N.D.) are holding a meeting at our community centre in Coffs at 7:00 pm on June 11th with a 10 minute powerpoint from Sylvia. We will have template letters for people to write to Coffs Council requesting reverse osmosis water purifiers, bottled water or rainwater tanks - these requests accompanied by medical certificates will then no doubt be sent on to NSW Health.

 

Sylvia has been working closely with a fluoride sufferer in Gosford (already fluoridated) and the Mayor of Gosford (the Council is contacting Deniliquin Council to find out about their initiative with purifiers) - it's all about setting precedents and this attempt is well thought out and prepared.

 

If NSW / QLD / VIC Health refuse to offer alternative water sources to people, in particualr infants, with medical certificates they won't have a leg to stand on.

 

Doug Cross's initiative in the European Court of Justice against Guinness is encouraging but we shouldn't wait to see how things go elsewhere - we should pick out our major beer and beverage exporters to Europe (processed with fluoridated water) - and scare the hell out of them with talk of an appeal to the ECJ - I'm still awaiting a response from the Alliance for Natural Health in the UK on making appeals to the ECJ - they have run successful cases

 

In conclusion Human Rights on this matter needs to be addressed and a campaign to get all anti fluoridationists to make short submissions to the National Human Rights Consultation process would be beneficial.
