The weight loss spam post is not approved by anyone and did not come from the members of the group, it is spam from a person sitting at a computer that just sends thousands of messages to thousands of email addresses with a single mouse click. Yahoo discussion groups like this are open, that is, anyone who has a yahoogroups password can send email to any open group, post to any open group, and read all the posts.  Since getting a password is easy and almost instant, any spammer that is blocked just gets a new one. So that's what they do - they target all the self help groups like ours and as fast as they are found out and blocked, they reappear with a new password and new computer address.

 

Posts are not censored or screened here. Please, do not take the spam personally and DO NOT REPLY TO THEM. There is currently no way to stop spammers from sending things to an open and free discussion group. If a group is moderated and closed then you can control spam but you also can't post to the group without having your post read and possibly censored first. Spammers know this. They count on us not being willing to give up our freedom to post without being censored. We can only hope that there is karma and that they will suffer the illnesses of the groups that they send spam to.
