Peptide synthesis including peptides used for making aspartame is accomplished with chemicals such as trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) made by Merck, that theoretically do not wind up in the finished product. Theoretically. As in "Trust us, we're Big Pharma."
Given the history of Merck and history of aspartame, it would not be too far fetched to think that aspartame does in fact provide enough fluoride from TFA to harm hypersensitives like us. Perhaps all those rat studies can show that swallowing aspartame helps teeth!
