Darlene Sherrell has a new commentary on fluorides. go to the site
and read how she hasbeen at the forefront of this debate for many
years.
Little snips follow;
Most people assume there were numerous studies that, when taken
together, formed a sound foundation for decisions about
fluoridation. In fact, however, the assumption is false.
The CDC, ADA, AMA, WHO, and PAHO rely on the Institute of Medicine,
National Research Council, National Academy of Sciences - as do
virtually all other groups involved in the promotion of
fluoridation. None of them can name a safety study capable of
detecting what it was supposed to be looking for, but all assume
there were hundreds, if not thousands of such studies. The
perception resembles a pyramid with a wide base on the bottom ...
but this is how it really looks. Everything involving estimates of
the daily fluoride intake capable of causing crippling deformities
of the spine and major joints rests on one study published during
the 1930s.
In other words, the books have been cooked and the book police are
on permanent leave by order of the cooks.
Those who promote fluoridation do so by relying on reviews of
reviews based on other reviews - not evidence-based scientific
opinion.
Perhaps the most obvious problem involves the fact that most people
ingest as much or more fluoride from the foods they eat - or the
toothpaste they use - than from the water they drink. There is no
control group. The symptoms are so common we've come to expect them -
- especially as we get older. Furthermore, there is no method in
place to allow physicians to report the cases they do find -
assuming any of them are looking or would recognize the signs. EPA's
drinking water regulations don't consider the earlier arthritic and
gastrointestinal effects of fluoride to be "adverse health effects."
The simple fact is this: there were no valid safety studies. There
still isn't a suitable method available to do a study large enough
to have any meaning. The only warning sign we have is the one that
affects young children while their teeth are developing. At the same
time, there is no way to verify claims of reduced cavities in
fluoridated areas. There never was.
