World Health Organization Director-General Margaret Chan said that for the first time in humanity, we are seeing, or we may be seeing, pandemic influenza evolving in front of our eyes, as Swine Flu mutates and reassorts to combine with Seasonal flu and Avian Bird Flu. Alfred W. Crosby Jr., author of America's Forgotten Pandemic and John M. Barry author of The Great Influenza have warned that we need to prepare for a flu pandemic. No one can predict whether this Fall will bring a deadly Autumn wave of mutated Swine Flu. And H1N1 may start to resist drugs. MRSA pneumonia may often follows flu.

We are a group of public health professionals, medical personnel, and academicians in the areas of microbiology, pathology and virology who are concerned because previous global epidemics claimed 50 to 100 million lives -- about 2%-3% of those infected. But the coming flu pandemic could be far worse. We welcome new members to our group.
