I can't find the list of advocates. I could have sworn there was one on here a
few months ago and I thought I printed it off and filed it. One of my neighbors
needs someone to help her with her kids IEP (not on the spectrum) meetings. If
anyone has them and can e-mail me My neighbor and I would greatly appreciate it.
Please forward to your lists, especially to pregnant moms.
Comments are convincing. One especially:

"I'm from a town of 2000 in SD, there are several women pregnant and we are all
due within a few weeks of each other. Four of us got the H1N1 vaccine 2 weeks
ago and one by one each of us started to have preterm contractions. We are all
due in Nov and Dec so we are further along than most of the people that lost
their babies. There is no way you can tell us that our preterm labor was not
caused by the H1N1 vaccine. It may look like a "fluke" to some people when these
women are scattered all over the country but we are talking about 4 of us in our
small community. My heart goes out to all of you that lost your babies."

I was told by several doctors to get these vaccines. Now I wish I followed my

I was so ready to get the H1N1 vaccine last week and they were only giving them
to pregnant women. I was 6 weeks along and got it and the next day I started
cramping and miscarried. I already had two healthy pregnancies and never
miscarried or had any problems. My doctors think I am crazy to think it was the
H1N1 but if no one looks into this than other women will not know. I am so sorry
that I got it.
November 3, 2009 at 4:30 pm (8) Connie says:
I also received the H1N1 vaccination on October 22nd, 2009 and went into labor
on October 25th, at 16 weeks pregnant and we just heard the heartbeat and
everything was fine with my pregnancy on October 16th, 2009, then on October
28th my water broke then on October 29th, I delivered a stillborn baby boy, and
no one can tell me why.Everyone wants to say it did not come from the shot but I
believe it did. My baby was growing at the correct pace and everyone wants to
brush off the vaccination. I say if you have the vaccination and suffer a
miscarriage if they are able to perform an autopsy have it done. November 3,

November 4, 2009 at 10:12 pm (10) sioux falls, south dakota says:
I received the H1N1 vaccine on October 16th and started experiencing cramping on
the 22nd. I was nearly 17 weeks pregnant and gave birth to a stillborn baby boy
on the 23rd. Like many of the other women here, the first thing I suspected was
the H1N1 vaccine. I immediately asked a nurse at the hospital if that would have
anything to do with it. Without hesitation, she told me "absolutely not." I had
reservations about getting the vaccine, but followed the advice of my long
trusted family doctor. In a follow up appointment with my doctor 3 days after I
lost my baby, I asked him if the vaccine would have had any adverse effects on
my baby. He also said that it was not possible. I don't believe that my doctor
was necessarily lying to me, he was simply following the accepted practices and
opinions of his field. I do, however, believe that as a nation, we are being
lied to. This vaccine is NOT safe during pregnancy. There has not been enough
testing done to determine this and there are far too many "coincidences" for
this to be anything but a result of a vaccine that was hastily pushed into
production and distribution in an effort to stop widespread panic. I have read
so many stories in defense of the vaccine that will talk about how common
miscarriages are, but I would challenge you to ask ANY health care professional
how common second trimester miscarriages are. My baby was doing perfect
developmentally and I had felt him move earlier that day. My heart goes out to
all of you out there who have had to go through the same heartache and loss that
I have had in the last couple of weeks. There is no reason that any woman or
family should have to go through this. Get the word out to all of the pregnant
women that you know. I know that if I had heard that women had been losing their
babies shortly after they received the vaccine, I would have followed my gut and
not gotten it myself. Maybe then Wyatt would have had a chance at life.
November 6, 2009 at 8:16 am (36) Marina Rossi says:
I recently got the H1N1 vaccine and miscarried 3 days later. I thought it could
have been the vaccine but didnt ask. After finding this site I believe it was
the vaccine. Sorry to everyone else out there who has just experienced a
miscarriage.
November 6, 2009 at 11:54 am (42) ashley says:
Im not sure but not only myself, i know someone that withing 4 days of getting
the shot we both miscarried, i was only 6 weeks and she was 4 months along, not
sure if the shot caused it and cant find any other information but i am a little
concerned about this coincidence.
November 11, 2009 at 2:05 pm (238) zoe says:
I was vaccinated on Friday and on Tuesday my first trimester screening
ultrasound showed that my baby did not have a heart beat. I was 12 weeks along
and the baby measured 12 weeks so it must have happened after the vaccination
(when I was 11 weeks). I doubt that they will ever draw any conclusions about
the cause of my baby's death but it is quite uncommon to have a miscarriage
after 12 weeks and if I could make the decision again, I would have played it
safe (although that's what I thought I was doing) and NOT have had the shot.

thinking about getting a flu shot?
This is a heart breaking story from a friend of mine... Yes, tomorrow I will be
protesting (with the consent of the mother who I'm still waiting to hear back
from) in memory of Wyatt James Ihnen. The mother who received the vaccine is my
best friend's sister-in-law. I am extremely close to the family.
She went in to get the H1N1 shot and that same night started experiencing cramps
and the baby started kicking more than usual. She didn't think anything of it at
first, just thought that she was getting sick or something, but the next morning
she still had cramps so she went to the hospital and Wyatt was stillborn
(natural birth!). Wyatt was 17 weeks old and 7 inches long. The mother and child
were healthy with no complications prior to the shot.
She and the father are having an extremely hard time with the death of their
son. She feels like by baby Wyatt kicking he was trying to tell mommy," Help
me!" That thought haunts her.
The family performed a funeral and everything.

THIS WEEK.. Tues 10 Nov 2:30pm I had the seasonal flu shot (not H1N1)- supposed
to be safe for pregnant women & highly advised. Wed 11 Nov 4:30pm began bleeding
and taken by ambulance to ER where heartbeat could not be confirmed externally.
Thurs 12 Nov 9:30am internal ultrasound confirmed no heartbeat. Fri 13 Nov I had
a D&C. My heart is absolutely broken.
I have never had a miscarriage before. Have 1 healthy son who I carried to term.
No history of poor health (ie: diabetes, obesity, blood pressure, etc.)No
drugs/alcohol. I eat a healthy diet with lots of raw veggies & fruit, but not
vegatarian.
I heard my baby's heartbeat just a few weeks before and everything seemed to be
progressing normally. Now may baby is gone and there is nothing I or anyone can
do to turn back the clock. I will never know if this immunization was the cause
of my loss or what. But I am utterly broken. Emily, Ft Benning, GA, USA

This is so sad.
A friend of ours had a miscarriage on October 30th. She was just over 12 weeks
along, and there was no heartbeat at the 12 week ultrasound. She was right on
target for size and heartbeat the week before.
I just called my close friend (the woman who miscarried's best friend) and asked
if she had gotten the H1N1 shot recently. It turns out that she got the shot the
week before, at 11 weeks, when everything was fine with the pregnancy. Makes me
wonder.
Personally, I'd never get a vaccine while pregnant. My gut just says "NO" and I
try to trust that instinct, as it hasn't led me wrong so far.

ASAN Protests Autism Speaks NYC Concert at Carnegie Hall
We'll be gathering at Seventh Avenue and 57th Street, 154 West 57th Street in New York City at 6 PM to hold up signs and hand out flyers to Autism Speaks sponsors going in to their New York City concert with Bruce Springsteen and Jerry Seinfeld. Come join us!
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
1. Autism Speaks talks about us without us. Not a single Autistic person is on Autism Speaks' Board of Directors or in their leadership. Autism Speaks is one of an increasingly few number of major disability advocacy organizations that refuse to include any individual with the disability they purport to serve on their board of directors or at any point in their leadership and decision-making processes. In large part due to Autism Speaks’ public relations strategy of presenting Autistic people as silent burdens on society rather than human beings with thoughts, feelings and opinions.
2. They use fear and stigma to try and raise money off the backs of our people. Autism Speaks uses damaging and offensive fundraising tactics which rely on fear, stereotypes and devaluing the lives of people on the autism spectrum. Autism Speaks' advertising claims that Autistic people are stolen from our own bodies. Its television Public Service Announcements compare having a child on the autism spectrum to having a child caught in a fatal car accident or struck by lightning. In fact, the idea of autism as a fate worse than death is a frequent theme in their fundraising and awareness efforts, going back to their “Autism Every Day” film in 2005. Indeed, throughout Autism Speaks’ fundraising is a consistent and unfortunate theme of fear, pity and prejudice, presenting Autistic adults and children not as full human beings but as burdens on society that must be eliminated as soon as possible.
3. Very little money donated to Autism Speaks goes toward helping Autistic people and families: According to their 2008 annual report, only 4% of Autism Speaks’ budget goes towards the “Family Service” grants that are the organization’s means of funding services. Given the huge sums of money Autism Speaks raises from local communities as compared to the miniscule sums it gives back, it is not an exaggeration to say that Autism Speaks is a tremendous drain on the ability of communities to fund autism service-provision and education initiatives Furthermore, while the bulk of Autism Speaks’ budget (65%) goes toward genetic and biomedical research, only a small minority of Autism Speaks’ research budget goes towards research oriented around improving services, supports, treatments and educational methodologies, with most funding going towards basic research oriented around causation and genetic research, including the prospect of prenatal testing. Although Autism Speaks has not prioritized services with a practical impact for families and individuals in its budget, its rates of executive pay are the highest in the autism world, with annual salaries as high as $600,000 a year.
"We are morally compelled, here in this hour, to try to imagine - to try to feel in our own nerves - the totality of the suffering of 100 million tortured animals. The issue before us today is pain, agony and cruelty - and what a moral man must do about it in view of his own conscience."

Good morning, does anyone have any suggestions on finding afternoon childcare? My daughter is 11, high-functioning and usually does well with other adults. I was thinking a highschool/college student interested in special ed/child development - just wondered if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks! Karen

Hi all! I applied for a grant from the state of KY for the autism support group I started, Comforting Ties. I am happy to say the grant was approved and I am using that grant to pay Cincinnati Children's to present the Next Steps class at no charge to a total of 16 parents. I attached a flyer that gives date, time, location and registration information.

We still have tickets left for the Polar Express Train Ride for Sat. Nov. 21st. and don't forget to RSVP for our FREE Breakfast/ Brunch with Santa on Saturday, December 12th!
Families with ASD 5th Annual North Pole Express Train Ride!!
Date: Saturday, November 21st, 2009
Time: 6:15 p.m. (The Pajama Ride)
Location: Lebanon Mason Monroe Railroad Depot in Lebanon, OH
Tickets: We have reserved 2 train cars ( 145 tickets total) for the 6: 15p.m. Train ride.
Families with ASD Group outing to Kindervelt's North Pole Express. We will be going as a group on the 6:15 p.m. Pajama Run on Saturday, November 21st, 2009. I have reserved two train cars (145 spots) so that our group will get to ride together. Tickets have gone up this year and are $16 a piece. If you ride with Families with ASD and purchase tickets from us, we will again offer them to you for only $8 a ticket. Families with ASD is very grateful to an anonymous donor whom is helping us offer you the tickets at a discount. We always look for sponsors because we want more families to be able to afford this wonderful train ride.
If you have not been on the North Pole Express, it is a wonderful experience. The train cars are decorated and there are elves that help out. They read "The Polar Express" to the children. An autism sensitive Santa gives each child a bell, just like in the book. He stops and speaks with every child and if you want your picture taken with him, he is happy to do so. If you bring a copy of the "The Polar Express", he will sign it for your child. After Santa leaves, the children lead us singing Christmas Carols. It is a wonderful time.
The train ride will again be at the Lebanon train station, so you will need to meet us there. This is called the Pajama run, so everyone is encourage to wear your PJ's for the ride, just like the little boy in the story. You are supposed to arrive at least 45 mins before the train takes off, so we would need everyone to arrive between 5:15p.m. & no later than 5:30p.m. (to allow time for parking). I will hand out your tickets and give your family train car assignments at the train depot. Each year we ask that families wear a red Santa hat because we always do a group picture. (usually you can get a red Santa hat at Walgreens or Dollar store for only $2 each).
If you would like to go on our Families with ASD North Pole Express group outing, I need you to first email me at familieswithasd@... (familieswithasd at yahoo.com ) and tell me how many tickets you will purchase. After I confirm your email, then you will need to fill out the following form and mail it with payment to Families with ASD, 4215 Edinburgh Drive, Cincinnati, OH 45245. This year we are accepting Credit cards (Visa/Mastercard). You will have to fill out the form and mail it to me with your signature on it saying you give Families with ASD permission to charge your credit card for that amount. I need all payments no later than November 16th. If I have not received your payment, then I will put
your tickets back up for sale so that another family will be able to join us. If you are unable to ride with us, but still want to go, you can go to Kindervelt's website and download the order form. Tickets for the train ride will be $16 a person and the times open are 9:30 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 12 noon, 1:15 p.m., 2:30 p.m. , 3:45 p.m. 5 p.m. and 6:15. (Hurry, tickets sell out quickly).
If you order tickets for the 6:15 p.m. ride through Kindervelt, the ticket price will be $16 each. The only way to get the Families with ASD discounted price is to order tickets through me. You do NOT need to be a member of the Families with ASD, but we do wish that only families with children/adults with autism purchase our discounted tickets. The two reserved cars are to help families living with autism attend a group outing knowing they are surrounded by others that care and know about autism. All checks for the Families with ASD train tickets should be made out to Families with ASD. We will use the money to pay for the Polar Express train tickets.

My daughter is 11, high-functioning and usually does well with other adults. I
was thinking a highschool/college student interested in special ed/child
development - just wondered if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks! Karen

Our FREE 5th Annual Families with ASD Autism Family Christmas Party is set for Saturday, December 12th. starting at 8a.m. Each year our FREE Autism Family Christmas party has grown, so to better meet our member's needs, and to help organize the traffic flow, we are having a Breakfast with Santa Workshop. CMC Properties have been so very kind to donate the use of the open office next door to the Families with ASD Autism Family Resource Center for our Santa Workshop.
Who? Any Family living with Autism
When? Saturday, December 12th, starting at 8a.m.
Where? The Autism Family Resource Center: 5989 Meijer Drive Suite #9 and (suite #10 for the workshop), Milford, OH 45150.
How? It is FREE. All you have to do is RSVP by calling 513-444-4979. Please leave your family name, number attending (including number of children/adults with autism and their siblings so Santa can have a present for everyone), and a phone number so one of our Families with ASD Volunteers can call you back and confirm the time frame your family is registered to attend.
Why? Families with ASD loves Helping Families with Autism. 98% of our ASD Board Member Volunteers have a family member with autism. 100% of our ASD Board Members are volunteers. We have NO Paid Staff. Only families living with autism volunteering there free time to the ASD group. We live with autism so we understand firsthand the journey your family is making. Our Families with ASD Mission is To form a network of families touched by ASD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, for support, education, and to promote awareness and understanding. Please visit our websites to learn more about Families with ASD: www.familieswithasd.org
Last year our holiday dinner with Santa was a Hugh success, but since we had so many families arrive at the same time, the line to see Santa was practically out the door. This year we have created a Santa's Workshop for your family to visit. We have 6 different time frames for families to sign up for. This way there will only be 30 people at a time at the workshop, so families will have more quality time with Santa. You pick the time that best fits your family.
Families will arrive at their registered time. Sign-in, and then go visit our wonderful Sensitive Santa (Scott Harrison has been doing a fabulous job for the past 4 years, and has agreed to volunteer his services again this year!). After your child visits Santa and your family will be given a family Photo Opportunity (you are welcome to bring your cameras and video cameras) with Santa. Next, you and your family will be allowed to go into Santa's Workshop. There your family member with autism and ALL their siblings will be allowed to pick out one toy each from Santa's wonderful Workshop!
After each child/adult with autism and their siblings receive their free toy from Santa, then your family will leave the Workshop and will be able to help yourself to our FREE breakfast/ brunch: Items will include: Coffee/ Juices/ Milk/ Donuts, Muffins, Fruit, Cereal, and Gluten Free Brownies, Gluten Free Cookies, and Gluten Free Muffins.
Our Party is always FREE for families. All you have to do is call the Autism Family Resource Center at 513-444-4979 and leave us your family name, how many in your party will be attending, then please tell us how many children/adults with autism/ and siblings (so we know how many presents Santa needs to bring), Which time frame best fits your family, and a phone number we can reach you. One of our Families with ASD volunteers will then call your family and confirm what time your family is assigned. We will do our best to fit your requested time, but also please know that we are serving many families and it is on a first come, first served system.
Currently, we have 6 times to choose from with a maximum of 30 people total (adults included) for each time frame. NOTE: If you want to come with another family, then please only have one family call to schedule the time so that you are both assigned in the same time frame.
hi karen - I don't know what part of town you are in, but I posted an ad on CL and found 2 great grad students who do tutoring/etc with my daughter. We are in anderson.

Good morning, does anyone have any suggestions on finding afternoon childcare? My daughter is 11, high-functioning and usually does well with other adults. I was thinking a highschool/college student interested in special ed/child development - just wondered if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks! Karen
