ANOTHER DELAY; 2nd Interim Budget Extends Deadline Again
The legislature passed another interim budget that the Governor signed yesterday extending the deadline to finalize the state's operating budget for another week - until July 14th.
This second interim budget, just like the first, sets funding levels for most programs at 70% of actual fiscal year 2009 spending levels.
The extension gives the legislature and the governor another week to work through their differences over the governor's controversial slots-at-racetracks plan.

The good news is that it appears that they have settled all other differences including those over school funding. While overall funding for schools may be cut, charter schools will continue to be funded as they are now. Click here to read a story published by the Akron Beacon Journal with more details.
Meanwhile - both the Senate and the House are continuing to hold hearings on slots and potential budget cuts respectively.
So what does all this mean to you?
Things continue to look positive that our schools will be fully and fairly funded - but nothing is final until the ink of the governor's signature on the budget is dry.
So AGAIN we urge you to keep the pressure up for just a few more days. We definitely don't want to look back and wish we'd done more to save our schools.
It never hurts to make one more call or send one more e-mail, even if you've done it once already.

We know you've been doing everything you can - and hopefully this will all be over soon. So just keep doing what you've been doing for a couple more days before it's too late to do anything at all.
