Luke's MRI results   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #35 of 6229 |
Hello,
Greg and I took Luke to see Dr. Franz yesterday for his EEG and MRI
results. The EEG results were normal with no seizure activity during
our stay. The MRI results were compared to the last MRI he had back
in November of 2005. Since his last MRI in 2005, they found multiple
prominent perivascular spaces within the parietal white matter. The
Spectroscopy part of the MRI showed that he had mild parenchymal
volume loss. I told the doctors they needed the "MRI for Dummies"
book for parents because all of this is Greek to me. What it boils
down to is that Luke has lost brain mass or has suffered brain damage
since November of 2005. They do not know the cause of the damage or
if it is a permanent damage. The only way we will know is with time.

One of the theories is that it is Medicine related. Dr. Franz wants
to try and take him off the Depakote 250 mgs a week until he is
completely off and see if that makes a difference. He said he is not
100% sure if our last neurologist was correct in his diagnosis and
treatment of Luke and feels he was put on too much medicine. It
could also be auto-immune related. Not all the auto-immune test have
come in, so he didn't want to give us a definite answer. Eventually
in the future we will do another scan to check and compare the MRI
and see if his white matter continues to shrink, stays the same, or
rebuilds. So, we did get an answer, but a ton more questions.
Please continue to pray for Luke. Today we are taking Luke to visit
his new school at CNE, the Stair program, and then back to children's
for a follow up with Dr. Cambpell from Psy. Monday, Luke and I will
be going to his new school, so wish us luck!!
