Not sure about specific health problems, but I do know that hundreds, if not
thousands, of children come to the US every summer from Belarus. They usually
visit doctors and dentists while they're here. The chance to leave the
contamination of their homeland for a short visit is supposed to add several
years to their lives.
Here's a quote from one group that brings kids over: The explosion released 90
times as much radiation as the Hiroshima Bomb. This has effected the health of
the people especially the children due to its effect on the immune system. This
has resulted in thyroid disease and thyroid cancer, an increase of leukemia and
birth defects, and vitamin deficiencies. http://www.abro.org/History.html
