Hi Everyone,
This is my first post, although I have been monitoring this board for
several weeks, and enjoying the education. I just restarted the SCT
(modified by Max Contraction) training in the past two weeks. I
say "restarted" because I'm not new to the concept. I trained using
SCT for nearly a year several years ago. I eventually wandered away
from the protocal because I maxed out my available weights on my home
power cage set-up, and was spending far more time stacking plates and
rearranging the equipment for the next lift than I thought it was
worth. But it worked, and I was happy with the results in added
strength.
However, since John Little's book on Max Constraction training, which
is the same as SCT, except for isolation exercises instead on
compound lifts, it seems to me, much of the need for EF equipment has
been lost. Just about all of the Max Constraction lifts can be
accomplished with a few free weights or on standard weight machines.
Yes, there are a couple of exceptions, like the calf raise and shrug,
for instance, that require more weight, but for the most part I think
that is a fair statement. I also think a couple of compound moves
like the bench press are good eventhough John says it's less
effective than originally thought.
Perhaps this has been discussed on this board and I just haven't seen
it. Obviously, if I had the EF equipment I'd use it, but it seems to
me there is an obvious split between Cisco's thinking and that of
Little.
Is this topic out of place, dated, or are there other thoughts?
Tim
