I'm a novice at bodybuilding. My prior experience was about a year and
a half on the Nautilus equipment at the fitness center primarily toning.
I looked around after a while & realized I was using more weight than
most of the guys, yet they looked more muscular. I shifted to the
weights, split sessions, etc., for about another year. I felt like I'd
reached a plateau at the fitness center at the time I switched to the EF
equipment.
My last evaluations at the fitness center were:
1/3/02
weight - 182 lbs
body fat - 17.3%
lean body mass - 150.5 lbs
6/23/03 (unfortunately I missed 6/02 & 1/03)
weight - 188 lbs
body fat - 17.3%
lean body mass - 155.5 lbs
12/23/03
weight - 182 lbs
body fat - 13%
lean body mass - 158.3 lbs
I switched to the EF equipment in 4/04 & have not been back to the
fitness center since, so I don't have their evaluations anymore. I now
use a Tanita BF-680 scale, which sometimes give me bizarre results, so
it's hard to compare. I use the athletic & the non-athletic results &
average them. According to the Tanita:
Yesterday
Weight - 195.4 lbs
Athletic mode body fat - 12.3%
Non-athletic mode body fat - 22.4%
Average - 17.4% (lean body mass - 161.5 lbs)
Today (after Mexican dinner out with friends late last night)
Weight - 197.4 lbs
Athletic mode body fat - 11.1%
Non-athletic mode body fat - 21.5%
Average - 16.3% (lean body mass - 165.2 lbs)
I do this daily, pop the numbers into a spreadsheet & graph the results.
Unlike Anthony, I don't feel like I've gained 20 lbs of lean body mass
since I started using the EF equipment. Something isn't working the way
I want it to & I have yet to isolate it & figure it out. I'm not
leaning towards blaming it on the EF equipment or the way I'm using it,
though I'm open to that as a possibility. My body fat is currently up
because I decided that I'd see if I put on more lean body mass if I ate
more. I'm about to conclude that all I'll do is get fatter & move up
another size or two.
I did find some measurements that I took from 1/04 up through 6/04. At
that time I did not notice any significant trends (& I had the shoulder
injury), so I stopped. Curiously enough, the ones I took a few days ago
are almost all in the same range. Biceps are at the lowest point;
weight, chest, waist & hips are over prior measurements, and calipers
are at the top of the early 2004 range.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the detailed info; very informative. Sorry to hear about
your VIOXX problem; hope your feeling better!
It looks like you have been using this EF equipment for almost a year
now, excluding the time you spent in the ER room. How where you, or
are your numbers body wise since? Did you gain muscle size? Did you
reduce body fat reduction? If so, how long between your EF workouts
are you resting to see these changes?
Thanks in advance,
Rule1red
