Re: [Explosive_Fitness] Re: Welcome to a new member.

Hi Anthony, Dirk & all,

:~ )

Anthony, thanks you for this most interesting post. I think it highlights
many of the misconceptions that abound on the subject of training. The group
is coming to life now we have more members. Great stuff. :~ )

Dirk, many thanks for the Excel Workout form.

Steve

Hi Dirk,
Did you find the EF equip on eBay? I've looked there several
HUNDRED times and have never seen anything!! I must have been looking
the wrong place! I ordered the leg press a couple of weeks ago, and
have been trying to get things together (actually 'dollars'!) for the
upper body machine.
I've been doing Static Contraction training for about 10 months. I
was doing PFT before that, primarily because I knew I would run into
maxing out the gym equipment pretty quickly with static contraction
training. When I got to the point where I had to add bars and plates
to the leg press, I knew I would have to start doing them
unilaterally (one leg at a time), so I decided SCT would be much
safer. I've been amazed at the progress (both in strength and
appearance), and I've been bodybuilding for about 14 years. One thing
I think is even more important is 'functional' strength increases.
That is, the strength is actually useful for more than just being
able to say "I can bench.....".
The first year was a waste, because I was ignorant of what
bodybuilding entailed. I began some in depth research and realized
that high school gym class teachers and wrestling coaches (the only
things I really participated in as a teenager) really had no clue
about true 'fitness' and what it takes to build a body. After weeding
through a great deal of written bovine feces on the subject, I ran
across several articles written by Stuart McRobert and Dave Tuttle.
Though these articles didn't give me all the info I'd like, they did
point me in the right direction. I had been working out 4 times a
week on a routine I found in a book by 'the volume master', if that
gives you a hint. My shoulders were always sore, and I stayed
systemically exhausted. But being stubborn by nature, I kept doing
it, thinking (as many seem to today) that it will work at some point!
More research led me to Mike Mentzer's work, and the fear of not
doing enough, pretty much went away. I realized someone had put some
logic and science together, and ignored the 'old bodybuilder's
tales'. Eventually I followed the road to Power Factor Training, and
again saw a progression toward understanding the real issues. Static
Contraction Training I think is the logical extension of Pete Sisco
and John Little's research and testing.
Anyway, I'm glad you've joined the ranks of Static Contraction
participants. Seems we are pretty quiet on the subject! There are
plenty of naysayers on every level. Most of them don't understand the
issues in the first place and accept gym lore as law. It's amazing
how easy it is to convince one of us humans of a lie, and how
difficult it is to convince one of us of the truth! I think it's
a 'numbers' thing. Seems 'facts' are determined not by accuracy but
by popularity.
I was so glad to see these machines come available. I've
been 'lusting' over them for a while now!

Anthony
