Lisa:
Congratulatons... My second son was born in April...nice time of year to have a baby...
I don't know that Patrick is considered in remission... The Coombs test was very positive over 2 months ago... The Drs told me not to worry as long as his counts are remaining stable...
Madison is young... I would do the same as you and keep the spleen... We tried to do that with Patrick but it became a serious problem for him...
Patrick's issues have been mostly the red counts. His white counts and platelets went down but never dangerously low... Since the spleen came out, his platelet count has soared...At one point 2 weeks after surgery is platelets were over 800,000....a little too high!
Patrick is still on 50 mg's of Imuran per day and takes penicillan every day for at least the next 2 years... His Imuran dosage was cut in half 2 months ago...
I have a patient from my last office who was on 6 mp for Crohn's disease...she was doing well on it...

Erin,
Im so glad to hear his surgery went well and he is still in remission. Madison's doctors have wanted to remove her spleen on several occasions but I opted not to. Her spleen has never been enlarged and Im too afraid it will not work. I am trying to save that as a last option. She is currently on 6mp and has platelets in the 100,000 range. She does not have issues with whites and reds.
Yes, I am having a little boy. Due in April. Lisa

Hi Lisa!
Yes, Patrick has his spleen removed on 11/6/8... He had been feeling very sick since June...lots of stomach discomfort, losing appetite etc..., began withdrawing. ..
His spleen was very enlarged when he was diagnosed in 8/06...Prednisone and Imuran helped shrink it somewhat but it always stayed enlarged...
Hematologist finally referred us to a surgeon in late Oct... Surgeon advised us to have ti removed...it was dangerous for Patrick to keep it...
Surgery was about 3 hours long, spleen was approx 4 times the normal size and weighed 2 lbs... It was open surgery because it was too large to remove laproscopicaly.
Drs have been thinking it's more hemolytic anemia than Evans at this point... They were not sure for a long time...
So far he looks great and I've seen such an improvement in appetite... He said he feels better too...
Lisa: Are you expecting a baby??? I see a little timeline on my screen...

Hello all...
Patrick's latest visit to hematologist this past Monday went very well...
Hgb is 13.2, WBC 7.5 and Platelets 418,000.
He's feeling much better and eating a lot more too...
Dr could not believe how much color he had in his face...
He was given 6 weeks off until next Dr visit.
Hope everyone is enjoying the new year and feeling well..
