Paul,
I am so sorry about Nathan's relapse. It makes me sick to think how quickly one can go from healthy to sick with this awful disease. Katie really enjoys the emails they have shared over the past couple of years.
They only thing I have heard about chlorine is that it can cause platelets to fall temporarily. However, every child has his own trigger or triggers. We have connected a couple of Katie's relapses with her braces, but other relapses seem to come from no where.
Maybe the chemicals in the pool were a trigger for Nathan. Also, even with the chlorine, pools are full of bacteria. Maybe the bacteria in the pool caused Nathan's immune system to react. I am convinced that one of Katie's relapses was caused by swiming in a cloudy indoor pool at a hotel (indoor pools have more bacteria than outdoor pools). I may be off base, but I won't ever let her swim in an indoor pool again.
Then again, maybe it had nothing to do with the pool. Has Nathan been under more stress than normal? That seems to affect Katie.
Please give our best to Nathan. We will be hoping that he will go into remission quickly this time.
Best wishes,
Grace
