Re: [EvansSyndrome] TB Test??

Dear Lou,

Thank you so much for your input on this.  It didn't even occur to me to check on the perservatives that are used for the TB test.  I will make sure and check on that. Since school is starting this week, I will wait up on giving Katie this test.  Maybe if it all checks out I will have it done shortly before Christmas break just in case she reacts unfavorably.  I'll be sure to let you all know what happens.

I so do appreciate your time in checking this out for me!!  Anything that has to do with Katie becomes so complicated!

Has anyone had any problems with ITP getting worse when their child
is given the tuberculosis test?

Hi Grace,
I don't have any knowledge regarding TB tests causing problems in immune compromised individuals.  I just did a brief search of the literature and did not find anything that was alarming in this regard.  PPD (purified protein derivative) is made up of dead cells.  I didn't have much luck in finding what the preservatives were/are in PPD.  I would not hesitate to ask Katie's doctor for info on the preservatives.  I really don't think that there is any thimerosol or mercury in them, but can't say for certain.  (If they did have thimerosol in them, I would use great caution in having it administered to Katie.)  If no thimerosol, then I would not be as concerned.
Hope this gives you a bit of insight.  Please let us know if she has the test and how she does with it.  I'll be praying :>)
Lou
