Today! NYS Doctors' Rights mean Patients' Rights   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #4 of 30 |
Dear all,
It occurred to me that I may not have stressed the importance of what is happening in the NYS Legislature.

NYS Assemblyman Gottfried wrote an excellent bill for OPMC Reform, balanced in terms of being protective of patients' rights, but also giving doctors rights that Lyme patient advocates have wanted for years.

Unfortunately Gottfried is now in discussions with NYS Senator Hannon to keep his reforms in the "Patterson Patient Safety Bill. (A11136/ S8298)

Due to Patterson's influence, Gottfried's OPMC Reform bill is now being called "Patient Safety Bill."

While patient safety is imperative,  the future of medicine depends on doctors having due process rights BEFORE any charges are made and also being allowed rules of evidence, should there be charges.

Doctors have to feel protected also - so that they can help patients who may need some "thinking outside the box."

The issue does point back, as we always have said - doctors' rights mean patients' rights.

There is a small window of opportunity If you are able to contact Senator Hannon, today, please do the following - the message is so brief that it could take you only a few minutes!
