This list was established (in January, 1999) to give people with erythromelalgia (aka "EM") a convenient way to communicate with each other about the disorder. Appropriate subject matter for this list has to do with erythromelalgia (EM). We typically write messages about how the disorder affects us and what we are doing to try to cope better with it, or treat it more effectively. Physical, pharmacological, surgical, and psychological treatments and reactions are subject matter that gets discussed. Psychological reactions and emotional distress caused by EM are also appropriate subject matter. We periodically offer emotional support to one another for problems and distress related to EM and our experience with it. However, and this is important, this is NOT a "chat room" where we discuss other psychological problems and emotional issues. List subscribers frequently ask questions about various things related to EM, and get responses from others who offer suggestions and share their own experience. This is not a forum where medical advice or diagnosis is offered. Subscribers are encouraged to have a primary care physician and to discuss all diagnostic and treatment issues with that physician. This list and the information shared should NOT substitute for good medical care.
