SG, I know the feeling you're describing well. It's called allergic
rhinitis. I went through hell unable to breathe through both of my nostrils
for months before I made a connection between drinking water and my symptoms.
At first I thought I was allergic to foods, but eventually it got so bad
that I thought I was allergic to all foods, water and mold!
After I moved to the desert to get away from the mold, I figured it out. The
tap water here is so horrible to drink, that I started buying bottled water.
Like magic, all my allergic symptoms disappeared! Eventually I figured out
that it was the fluoride in the tap water that was affecting me. It is
undoubtedly also what caused me to become hypothyroid. Fluoroid interferes
with the body's thyroid functioning. I've switched to distilled water now,
and my other symptoms such as sore muscles and aching joints have gone away
too!
I'm on a list for allergies also, and when I told one of the women on the
list about this, she tried drinking distilled water and brushing with
non-fluoride toothpaste. Her symptoms went away for the most part on the
very first day!
If you want to learn more about fluoride and why you should avoid it, here's
a good place to start.

Good luck!
