from Kimberly Read & Marcia Purse There is a wealth of excellent material available on the topic of bipolar disorder. The book shelves are bursting with excellent reading. There are also some wonderful stories and sites on the internet by people who have bipolar disorder. Reading these resources and insights, these struggles and successes can improve our knowledge and bring inspiration.
We Heard the Angels of Madness Kimberly shares, "One of my personal favorite books on the topic of Bipolar Disorder is We Heard the Angels of Madness by Diane and Lisa Berger. One of the outstanding features of this book is the format in which it has been written. Each chapter of the family's experience is followed by a chapter of relevant facts and information."
Electroboy One of Marcia's favorite authors is Andy Behrman. He wrote Electroboy, the fast-paced, compelling story of his life with bipolar disorder. Andy is also a regular visitor to this site and frequent contributor of content. Found here are interviews and articles by this author as well as reviews of his work. The Behrman family recently added a new addition to their family with the birth of their second daughter. Congratulations!
Speaking from Experience Our community members are generous in sharing their experience with others who live with bipolar disorder. We have compiled their experiences - experiences of pain, of hope, of wisdom, of practical advice - in these pages on many topics of interest to those with bipolar, their families and friends, and those who treat people with manic-depressive illness.
We have three active forums full of people just like you - people who love to share their personal stories and experiences, people who just want to talk to other people who understand. Feel free to join these or any of the discussions.
1) Stable and Working Well I've gotten my med cocktail straight and I think I'm stable now. Docs got me on Lithium, Topomax, Paxil and Levoxothrine. Other than some tingling sensations every once in a while I feel pretty straight. I do have moments when I feel spacey but I guess that's to be expected. I'm looking forward to life again.
2) Will Lithium Make Me a Zombie? I don't know what to do about my meds. My pdoc wants me to try lithium but I am hesitant because I don't want to become a zombie. People that I've talked to say it's not like that at all. Does anyone know?
3) Cut Up My Credit Cards! About a year or so ago, I started to get credit card offers because my credit was better. So I got some credit cards. Well, I realized it's out of hand. I looked up Credit Consumer ... the good debt consolidation place and they are going to eliminate my payments by more than half. I'm so happy! I'm so glad I did it. I just took scissors and cut up all the cards. I feel so free.
by HopeSeeker97 Bipolar you are not my friend! I'm tired of you pushing me around You cannot control me I have been given a free will you will not destroy me or my life!
